We just went through a trade deadline where a remarkably small number of players returned a 1st- including zero Ws- and somehow you think Reilly Smith is the W that'll return a 1st? Even Debrincat barely got more than a 1st last year. Lower your expectations.

Monahan got a first. Oilers usually overpay anyway. Maybe a stretch on Petterson but if an extension is in place if he goes to Colorado, he could probably get a first.

Why would that Smith trade ever happen?

A stretch on Pettersson?! My man you are out to lunch. You got your own trades backwards.

I’m trying to deal with this other guy. As a GM I would trade more for Pettersson than Smith. As a GM I’d probably give up a 1st and 5th for Pettersson as long as he is keen on resigning.

I would expect about a 1st and 3rd.

Hard to access it but Hanafin returned pretty much a 1st and 3rd plus a 3rd pair defenceman and Pettersson isn’t Hanafin.

Can't see the Avs paying that price for an expiring Pettersson they won't be able to re-sign

Yes, Monahan the C that is 3.5 years younger (29 when traded compared to Smith being 33 in this trade) and was scoring at a notably better rate while being paid 1.9mil. Again, the distinction in value between a C and W is the basis of my point.

I'll ignore the "Oilers usually overpay" point.
