I get that Markstrom is the target, but beyond that what is NJD's plan?

The price is going to probably be higher on Saros

I see what you're going for, and in theory the development climbs of Zherenko and Ellis make this sort of trade feasible if not logical in some respects, but I'm not retaining a big amount for multiple years on Binnington for just a passable return. As long as Krug is here, he's first in line for the take a large cap hit prize, and nobody else is in second. I don't want to stack up a bunch of dead cap. The1st could be useful, Casey could be a decent Faulk replacement in a while, but it's not enough for me to start digging a dead cap hole. And trading Binnington would likely have a bad effect on the team anyway. They might see him as the pope by now, he's saved their souls so many times.

The plan is to not pay a top 10 pick+ for a goalie. And if a package like this is on the table, it better be for Swayman.

Underrating casey, and underrating the fact that NJD's pick is currently slated at 9th overall

Fair point. Krug is definitely #1 on the To Do list. I'm a strong Army supporter, but this summer needs to make something happens, which starts with finding a way to move Krug.

I think a Binnington trade is inevitable. I'm actually kind of dreading it, I think GM's around the league would value Binnington, but half of the fanbases around the league are convinced he is a Beer League goalie, because of past antics. Any Binnington trade assumes that you definitely have Hofer progressing into a starter role and probably Zherenko ready to make appearances in the league from time to time.

I think NJD wants to use the pick to get a goalie and is pretty desperate. If they don't land Markstrom or Saros, I don't know who else there is to grab.

Fair enough on Casey. In my head I was picturing the pick ending up closer to 14th. If it is Top 10 I would agree they would probably just hold onto it.

What if it was Casey, Stillman, and Allen for retained Binnington?

That would be much more reasonable but I’d prefer to keep Casey tbh. Not sure what the NJD front office would do

Maybe that was my misunderstanding. I thought Casey was stuck behind other more talented prospects and would probably be a wise piece to move for NJD.

Yeah. Blues have forwards young and older and goalies young and older. Need D so often look at teams with surplus of D but none of those teams' fans ever seem to want to trade those D. I can't see NJ trading their first this year though regardless.

Casey can play the left side as well. Next year he'll be in the AHL and come up in case of any injuries. Then we'll make a decision. Either LD, moving one of Marino/Hamilton (which may be necessary for cap reasons regardless), or moving Casey. But no reason to do it now.

There’s a lot to read and can’t reply to everyone but I think this would be a decent deal for everyone. New Jersey fans are acting like Binner hasn’t been top 5 in GSAx this year while playing behind a defense that’s been bottom 3 in GAx and Corse and really all advanced analytics. Binner is the only reason we’re not locked into a top 5 pick which is a bit of a bummer given where our team is at. 3 years at 4M would be worth that package if it’s the one thing holding the devils back from making that jump. Plus, Binner has that clutch gene. Dude had ice in his veins and 2019 and we would have beat Colorado based on solely his play if he didn’t get injured in 22.

Yes. Maybe trade up few spots with that 2nd rounder or something like that. We will see. Parekh, Yakemchuk or Jiricek are possible 🎶
