Team: 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 15, 2024
Published: Mar. 15, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team is falling into no man's land. Not a bottom feeder but not a cup contender. We are maxed to the cap and have a roster full of aging veterans. It's time to play the young guys and go after a few high end guys that we can't fill with our prospect pool. I would be fine if the team was struggling while young guys are getting reps but watching vets who clearly don't care is infuriating. Yzerman has 2 years imo to get this team on track or it's time to consider some changes at the top.

Deep breath buddy. They're in the middle of a rebuild.

There's almost $30M in cap space next year LOL.

Im fine with a rebuild but yzerman keeps filling the lineup with overpaid vets. What rebuilding team doesn't have a single rookie in the lineup? Rebuilding teams need cap flexibility. Most of that cap room will go seider, Raymond and veleno. Leaves very little room to go get another high end piece.

this was such a waste of a season lol

such a bizarre year, were supposed to be nearing the end of the never-ending rebuild, yet Yzerman gives all roster spots to mediocre vets who will be retired once this team has a legit shot at anything. Next season has to be what this season should have been, a youth movement. I don't think ASP is coming over yet, he's still a raw prospect and needs time to develop, but I'm ready to play kids like Kasper, Mazur, Edvinsson, Johansson over useless vets like Petry, Sprong, Fischer, Chiarot, Copp etc...

Raymond and Seider take up $16M at most. Veleno gets about $1M. You have plenty to go get a Matt Roy or a Marchessault or someone similar. Edvinsson will be up; Berggren and Soder will probably be up; Mazur can be up; Kasper/Danielson might get a look.

Do you watch the team or just like to whine about nonsense and spew bogus talking points? There is not a single overpaid vet on this team outside of Chiarot, who has been very, very good this year.

As an outsider looking in, I would believe in the Red Wings so much more if they didn’t have Yzerman at the helm

That quote tells me you don't watch a single game. I've watched about 90% of the games this year, was at the **** show of a game last night as well. Copp, fabbri, perron, maata, holl, petry are all a waste of space. Their production could have been replaced by prospects this year but instead we get to watch guys who are useless and won't be around for the good years. Chiarot has been effective but is still overpaid for what he brings to the table.

I thought jersey might have to add to get it done. So fat Berggren has been better then Holtz. Figured both guys could use a fresh start. I threw in the 3rd because of the potential of Holtz.

I watch every single game. They have been fantastic this year as a team up until this rough stretch. It happens to every single team in the league, except for the few elites.

lol, that's hilarious. Yzerman has taken a dumpster fire passed on by Holland and already built a competitive roster with one of the best prospect pipelines in the league. He built a perennial contender in TB. What are you smoking?

thats exactly my point...fans are blaming a ******** patch rather than actually looking at the team itself managed by Lord and saviour Yzerman. At the start of the losing streak, I thought it was a joke, but people genuinely believe this team is losing because a patch, it's concerning...

As an outsider, I have found a lot of Yzerman's moves the past two years to be puzzling. Fact is you're leaving the rebuild with maybe two genuinely elite talents, and they're both defensemen (and one of them is apparently being left in the AHL forever). To make up for that, he's loaded up the roster with middling vets with multiple years on their contracts. You're built to be the 2016-20 Blue Jackets, congrats.

Also, Michigan native Jeff Petry's NMC says absolutely not to that trade.

Did you skip December? They were the worst team in the league during that month. They've looked great at times but great goaltending by lyon and a hot powerplay/high shooting percentage has made them appear far better than they are. I'm not saying they've shown flashes but they need to have a few more young guys in the lineup while rebuilding. You can't tell me Edvinsson or Johansson couldn't have matched what maata, holl or poetry are bringing to the table.
