Trading Up in the Draft

Created by: tstrauss16
Team: 2024-25 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 17, 2024
Published: Mar. 17, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure if New Jersey takes this deal, but I assume an extension would be in place. The top 9 core for New Jersey would be:
Buchnevich - Hughes - Mercer
Meier - Hischier - Bratt
Palat - Haula - Holtz

The Blues only make this trade if 1 of 3 are available:
- LD Sam Dickinson
- LD Zeev Buium
- RD Carter Yakemchuk

If we don’t draft one of those 3 guys, I dont think we come away from the draft with the goal of acquiring a top pairing prospect.

I expect the draft to go as follows:
1) Chicago - M. Celebrini
2) San Jose - A. Levshunov
3) Anaheim - I. Demidov
4) Columbus - C. Lindstrom
5) Arizona - A. Silayev
6) Montreal - B. Catton
7) Ottawa - Z. Parekh
8) Buffalo - C. Eiserman
9) St. Louis (via New Jersey) - 3 available defenseman
10) Pittsburgh - 3 available defenseman
11) Seattle - 3 available defenseman
12) Calgary - J. Iginla
13) Minnesota - T. Connelly
14) New Jersey (via St. Louis) - K. Helenius

I’ve always been in favour of, unless we win the lottery for Celebrini, to go get as much value as possible with the pick. Then I’d also use the blues pick to get get a goalie or a dman.

For example if I could turn 9th overall+like a 2nd+3rd into buchnevich, Marcus Pettersson, and Ullmark. That would be ideal. Maybe some guys with more term but who knows. Lots of options

I love the idea,of course, but you are WILDLY overpaying. We would add like our 2nd or something. Maybe a 2nd and 3rd. Not Buch half retained.

Yeah just getting the idea out there since the way we are playing we are dropping out from the 3 defenseman I want.

Plenty of options. I wonder what Ullmark is worth from a trade perspective

I think it’ll center around a protected 1st round pick or a late one this year. Whether it’s sweeteners coming to the bruins, sweeteners coming back from the bruins, or retention and whatever depends on the market and how desperate the bruins may be for cap space.

have to agree, buch+a 2nd or 3rd would be more fair. No way does stl move their first and top scorer to move up 5-8 slots in the draft.
