Rossi trade thought

Description
A thought I had based off the Russo/Smith commentary of Rossi potentially being dealt. Not that they have any say in the matter and it's just speculation, but anyway...

I personally think this is bad for MN and they should not be entertaining something like this, but the train of thought is as follows:

1) PIT gets a young ready-now C that can learn under Crosby (and a known asset vs. gambling in the draft).
2) MN gets a chance to parlay Rossi's value into a Defenseman that would eventually replace Spurgeon
3) Guerin has a history of dealing with PIT
4) Dubas likes analytical sweethearts - Rossi checks that box

    I wouldn't do it personally but, it all depends on who the prospect is and if Minny loves them.

    Also I've heard this years draft isn't great so again, I'd stick with Rossi

    PIT doesn't need another center particularly badly and not sure why MIN would make this trade regardless.

    I would too, but the beat reporters here have been speculating about him being dealt so this was just an idea I had based on that.

    I would prefer they keep him myself.

    Regardless of value here, it comes down to Dubas either retooling or rebuilding. If they are just retooling than I could at least see the logic. If they are rebuilding, then I can't see it. Rossi is having a great year no doubt but IMHO doesn't hold this value.

    The bird in the hand is worth more than the bird in the bush.

    That being said, if for some reason the scouting staff are high on Zayne Parekh or Carter Yakemchuk at that spot, maybe. I just think that a center taken four drafts ago is worth more than an A prospect RhD, but maybe people are concerned about Rossi's size. And the Wild's pick is going to be 13 - 16, so moving up might be a better strategy, especially with a team that has a lousy prospect pool and holes in the dance card.

    How far up could they potentially move for the 9/10 and a 13-16th pick?

    Ya I agree - I wouldn't make this trade myself. It was just a thought I had based on some of the writer speculation that's been going around.

    Are you saying MN has a lousy prospect pool or you're saying find a team that does and trade up with them?

    The difference between pick 16 and pick 9 is roughly a first-quarter second-rounder (i.e., picks 33-40). I gotta believe that at least a couple of your prospects could bridge that gap.

    The whole issue is whether Guerin and the scouting staff and the coaches are ready to give up on Rossi yet. I see no signs that they are about to do so. I mean, the kid is scoring half a point a game. Look at how patient the Kings have been with Alex Turcotte (taken the year before) and Quint Byfield (taken ahead of Rossi and having his breakout year now).

    I'm not following what your point is? I know PIT has a bad prospect pool - that's presumably why they'd be interested in a 22 YO center and part of the reason why I made the trade in the first place.

    But what does the Wild's pick have to do with this and who is trading up?

    My alternative to trading Rossi for pick 9 overall is pick 16 plus one of, say, Lambos, O'Rourke or Peart for pick 9 overall. Just a thought. (I hate giving up on top-10 draft picks as a matter of philosophy.)

    Ah I gotcha - yeah that's interesting in theory as a separate ACGM.

    You and I can agree they shouldn't give up on Rossi, but there is smoke there.
