Roast this and then get off my lawn

Created by: LimeyBarsteward
Team: 2024-25 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 20, 2024
Published: Mar. 20, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My assumptions: Landy returns to full health and wins Bill Masterson award. Drouin prices himself out as does walker and Trenin. If we could keep one that would be great. We try Foudy at 3c and spend the Colton draft picks for an upgrade if we need to.
Also cogs retires or he is part of the team.
There’s 2.9m to fill out the bench warmers and either upgrade 3c or 3LD.

Very unlikely that they would trade Colton imo. I see one of Lehkonen, Girard, or maybe even Manson if they can get Walker back on a cheaper deal.

I like the player, it's a lot to give up, and it's a lot for a third liner. I think they could get a third liner in ufa for 4 or less, and it wouldn't involve trading away a 2nd and a 3rd. Depending on what else is available, I'd say maybe.

Right off the bat, JFL hasn't played center since he left the Windsor Spitfires. The Avs definitely don't see him as a center.

IMO there's a better chance they move Miles Wood over Ross Colton.

Otherwise, I think you're not far off.

We need to free up 4m so it’s one of those 4 that gets traded. Leky plays top 6 on a reasonable contract, Girard is cemented as 2LD and Manson 2RD. Manson and Girard just work together and have complementary skill sets so I wouldn’t break them up. Therefore Colton is the odd man out. In my opinion.

Lehkonen

0% chance they move Lehkonen. He's a childhood best friend of Rantanen, MacKinnon loves playing with him, he's exactly the type of player Bednar loves, and he's a fricken gamer.

I think we need to free up more than 2.5m of woods contract and I don’t see anyone trading for him given the length of the deal. I could be wrong.
I guess I was overly optimistic about JLF at center but that line would be great if he could slide back to C. I think he is going to be Colton down the road. Perhaps a little less physical but faster.

From the Sabres perspective, I’d say it’s a “maybe”

On one hand, we could use a solid 3C who can win faceoff and has a decent 2way game

On the other hand, it’s a bit much to give up, especially considering the Avs are in a bind w their Cap & he doesn’t have a small number

My first thought would be that u guys would probably rather have one of our forward prospects who is closer to being in the NHL than some draft picks, and we do have extra to part with

Seems like a deal for Colton could reasonably be worked out,
especially since we just did the Byram for Mitts swap

Decent idea @LimeyBarsteward

Also easier to replace a 3C than a RD2

My bad! I didn’t know he was that liked by Colorado. I still don’t know if Colton gets moved though. We will have to see, it will be interesting!

Have a great one!

I am…. I thought JJP was someone on the Avs
U weren’t very clear at all

To answer your question, “NO”
Sabres are very unlikely to trade ANY of their young roster players

A 2nd & 3rd is already a bit much for Colton
No chance we’d move Peterka for him imo

If Buffalo can’t bring in the ideal third line center via free agency, this is a trade I could be OK with making. I would say they have until draft day to decide what they’re going to try to do, and a trade like this gets done at the draft if they don’t think there’s a center that matches their price point. Granted, I don’t think the Sabres want to bump Krebs out of the third line position, and they want a guy who can play fourth line. But the chance to bring in a player like this may be too good to pass up.

Just sign Trenin or Joshua and see how they fit.
