Letang probably blocks and MTL likely has no interest. BOS and FLA seem unlikely to be interested in those offers either.

Letang is a former Kent Hughes long-time client, like Matheson. So, why Letang will gonna block a trade to his hometown and childhood team? Makes no sense.

But, I think that's also makes no sense to Montreal paid that much for Letang, and Pittsburgh will gonna need to accept a Habs contract for cap reasons.

Letang is from Montreal and the Habs love to take their French boys, I can't see him NOT waiving his NMC. Habs need a top D man

I'd be happy taking Anderson and a 1st for Letang, but he got a NMC for a reason and doubt he wants to move in his last few years in the season for one bad team to go to another.

The only scenario that would lead Montreal (or most teams I imagine) to acquire a soon to be 37 year old Letang who has a full NMC is if the cost is similar to the last mid to late 30s "top" D-man with serious trade protection was traded - Brent Burns. No team is going to offer anything remotely close to a 1st++ for Letang.

He got a full NMC because he never really haved a NMC during his career. I'm 100% sure that Montreal is one of theses teams that he will gonna accept to join them, especially because of his relation with Kent Hughes. Also, the massive rumour is that Montreal was the top destination for Letang if he wanted to hit the market, but Montreal started a massive rebuilt processus (means that's not a good timing). Don't forget that the Pens maked the playoffs in 2022, but since that, the team just downgraded......

Big difference between the Habs and the Pens : Pittsburgh is now on a decay processus while Montreal are now on a growth processus.

But, Montreal have right now a lot of Dman in their roster, so that's maybe not a great idea right now to do it that.

Can see Reilly Smith traded after the first run of free agents are gone. Not sure Boston does this unless they get a pick for Ullmark.

Listen, I like Letang and have been a fan of him for a lot of years, and I would take him on my team. But if he was still a top D-man, you would not be trading him.

I mean it makes perfect sense. He's spent 18 years with the Penguins, winning 3 cups alongside Crosby and Malkin. Took a discounted AAV to return to play with those guys in Pittsburgh. The only chance he's waiving is if all 3 agree to waive

I guess it depends where your cutoff is for a top dman. Letang is 8th in the league in even strength points by defenseman and would be the top dman in MTL. Not saying MTL would take the trade - but he's clearly still playing at a high level

He plays with Crosby, Malkin, and Karlsson... Of course he puts up points...
