Offseason no1 32424

Created by: Dmaz026
Team: 2024-25 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2024
Published: Mar. 24, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Going to do a small series of ACGMs throughout the offseason (Before playoffs, After Playoffs/PreDraft, After Draft, Aug 1st) and compare this one to the last and see what I get right (if anything lol)

Captains

Dahlin- C
Cozens- A
Girgensons- A

- I hoping after the absolute blunder of the PP this season we get new Assistant Coaches (pipe dream but i wonder if lindy would come home for a bench spot if he doesnt land a HC job)
- Savoie after a 71 point season in 34 games in the WHL makes the cut and is graduated to the NHL. Kulich would be first considered man up barring any injuries.
- Management loves Zemgus so i can see a 1 more year extension
- Based on spending habits of Upper management since KA took over i can see a Samuelsson trade happening this offseason. 4.285m to play bottom pair minutes is too rich for Terry and Adams blood. The cheaper option being Johnson on his rookie deal that *knock on wood* has the ability of availability.
- I like Benson and Quinn to take big steps next season.
- This roster (with extension of Bennett) will have us 8.3m under the cap ceiling and allows us around 23.5m to Resign Quinn, Peterka, Johnson, Byram, Levi and Greenway

I don’t hate this. I have my doubts that Bennett would want to sign long-term in Buffalo. Most people don’t think he would. It would hurt to lose Samuelsson, especially considering the team made long-term commitment to him, but the value is right if you can get Bennett back.

Panthers decline cause Samuelsson can’t stay healthy. Yeah Bennett gets hurt too but not as much as samuelsson. Plus if that’s all Bennett’s extension is in Buffalo he stays in Florida.

Panthers have to pay Reinhart, Ekblad, Montour before talking to Bennett. And none of the is taking paycut.

Yeah, it seems Samuelsson is made of glass, but he is still young, and was shut down for the season by Sabres, so probably some thing were put in place to hold him on the ice.

I really doubt Bennett signs that with Sabres, with taxes it is a paycut, at 27 you are not signing 4 yrs deal with paycut as Sam Bennett.

Contract value aside, Sabres have the cap to pay him what he might need to go. I just through out a value for ghits and shiggles.

Sabres are run cheap, so that would be perfect deal for 3C for Sabres going forward, I would not hesitate to trade Sammy for Bennet with 5 yrs term under 5 mil.

I have to think a Sammy deal happens at the deadline instead of in the offseason. His stock is at an all-time low right now - I guess it depends on whether KA thinks his stock will rise or if he just completely missed with that contract

But you’re sending more money to Florida for less money so that argument doesn’t work here. Plus forsling just set the panthers market for dman contracts as he’s their best dman. If montour wants more than 6 they’ll let him go. Ekblad also doesn’t deserve a raise. As for Reinhart he’s not making more than 9 with Florida. He shouldn’t even get 8.5

Actually no, Samuelsson is 4,2 mil, Bennett is 4,4. But thats irrelevant. I also missed, that Lundell is due raise from ELC, and they want to keep him. Guess it would all comes to what fails them in plaoffs - defense or offense. They are stucked with this goaltending unit.

And that’s okay. Bob is overpaid but at least playing great. I’d be okay letting Reinhart walk. Hes been great this year but his past few years with the cats have been just good and resigning tarasenko to a much smaller contract would be better than wasting half the cap space they have on one player
