I think they should be able to get a better return then that.

Quite a lot for Montour and Zadorov

Other than that, it's fair value imo

zadorov is a 3m dmen montour 7m , cant see the caps trying to get an expensive RHD with carlsson, jensen, and tvr signed? unless one gets moved, but at that price they say yes and flip him

How good is Iorio regarded? I don't watch much AHL where he's playing but from what I've heard and looking at his stats he seems that he's projected to be a top 4 player within the next 2 years. I thought adding a first would be too steep

Right, in this scenario they just got out from under Tyler Myers, but they're going right back to that well, lol. I love Z but he doesn't prioritize winning; I think he'd be happy getting paid by the Sharks to play big minutes bc they wouldn't mind losing.

Montour is an anchor waiting to happen.

At least get multiple 2nds from the Caps if they were moving off Jensen or TVR to free up space for Hronek.

Hronek is having a career year, so why on earth would the Canucks trade him for less than half of what they paid to get him? That deal makes absolutely no sense, there's no reason to be selling Hronek, let alone for a massive underpay.

Hronek is really good but playing with Hughes has made him look great. We worried about him being paid like a great defender and not a really good defender who also happens to be playing with the best.

Canucks offered under $7M/yr and Hronek's agent apparently pointed to Sergachev as a comp lmao

I actually think the Caps definitely consider this (and that's someone who really likes Iorio). Hronek (at ~7.25m AAV) would be exactly what the Caps need, especially with Carlson getting up there in age. Honestly, I am surprised you didn't add another pick (not a 1st as the Caps are in no position to be getting rid of their 1st round picks).

Regarding Iorio - I still think he has the potential to be a top 4 defender but hasn't progressed as well/fast as I thought he would. I think next year he still could be ready for full-time NHL, but definitely within 2 years. IMO he will be a very solid middle pair RHD.

In this example trade, Iorio would be gone, Bear is in player assistance (which I doubt will go into next year, but my point is there are question marks. Plus he has not played much and when he has, it has not been good), Carlson is staying but getting old, and I expect the Caps to trade 1/2 between Jensen and TVR. So that leaves:

Carlson
Jensen or TVR
Bear (question mark)

Hronek is exactly what the Caps could use - a solid young RHD that will be Carlson's replacement when he retires (I don't see Iorio being that player, but please correct me if you think that is a wrong view). I see this trade very similar to the Sandin trade last year.
