Doesn’t make sense for age and contract reasons. Marino not having best year also; expecting him to bounce back

Fair enough, was just thinking that Hamilton and Nemec would likely be the Devils top 2 RD next year and playing Marino at 3RD wouldn't be ideal since there is only so much ice time to go around, even if it would make for a really great RD lineup.

Edit** so if not Matheson, what would the Devils be looking for?

So what about Struble or Harris +? Or Evans +?

Edit** also said it could be Newhook instead of Matheson

Nah Harris and Struble aren't close to Marino and aren't that much younger Evans is a good bottom 6 guy but isn't a good 3c on contending team. Devils don't need picks or prospects Marino is a young top 4 RHD with term at a good cap hit can't see the devils letting that go for quantity gotta be a hockey trade unless casey is signing this week then maybe I could see them trading him for a 1st like pick 20ish at the draft.

Marino is the number 1 guy to hold a lead and on the . He got 20 minutes a night when Severson and Hamilton were on RD.

Matheson won’t get more ice time considering Luke Nemec and Hamilton will be go tos in down a goal situation, and Nemec Siegenthaler Bahl will be go tos in up a goal situations

Let Casey cook for a year in the AHL and come up as an injury replacement. Let Marino bounce back. We’ll be able to trade him for the same amount after next year

I just look at it as Nemec takes a huge step next year and is that guy very very high on him I could see him and Hamilton playing 22-24 each next year and heavily shelter Casey or sign a bottom pair D in UFA

I’d prefer to avoid 3 dman under the legal drinking age next year.

I think there’s no downside to keeping Marino next year. Let him bounce back, take top PK time, help us, and then we see what to do with him after.

Unless an offer wows us I wouldn’t move him

I'd normally agree but Luke and Nemec are more than good enough to be top 4 D next year they're for sure the exception to the rule IMO I wouldn't be looking to move marino unless its a good offer obviously he's a good player but probably a luxury as soon as next year

If it’s the deadline and Casey is tearing up the AHL, Nemec Luke Siegs Hamilton and Bahl look quality, sure move Marino in a hockey trade.

But after all the defensive injuries this year I can’t justify moving Marino. Let Casey get top pair minutes and PP/PK time in the AHL, and have him as an ace in the hole in case of injury

I understand the logic I'm just saying if a LHD or 3c is available for Marino I take it
