Leafs can't afford both Roy and Skjei. Another NHL centre is needed.

Kampf and Jarnkrok are both tradable salaries. That frees up another $4.5m. So that’s nearly $5.5m to sign guys like Wennberg, Henrique, etc.

I dont really think they need another C

Holmberg has done well in the role when needed and Dewar was a 3c with the Wild at times.

They also have Kampf if need be who was a 3c before and did fine

Like once JT's gone thats when you conduct the search but who knows someone may step in

Kampf is not a tradeable salary with what he brings to the table. If he was making half that, maybe they could move him. No one is going to take him at 2.4 without a lot of sweetner.

We have only had one other top 2 defensemen other than Mo play on the Leafs for the last 10 seasons - Muzzin.
Getting Skjei and Roy gives us 3. Adds to our top heavy forward group to be our best all around team. We finally have a salary cap situation that will enable us to solve for this. I like Domi, but there’s a reason he has never stuck on a team. He’s good, but much easier to replace than a top 2 d man.

It’s just unrealistic to think we can sign two ‘top 4’ dman in free agency. We have to settle for one top 4D + some depth guys.
Not because it wouldn’t be great to have but b/c we can’t afford it without gutting the bottom 6, like in this team.
