Getting Younger Through Internal Moves Exclusively

Created by: Fluxcc
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 31, 2024
Published: Mar. 31, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just a HYPOTHETICAL method of getting younger that is using internal assets exclusively. I don't think this would ever actually happen, just doing it for fun. We technically could field a young team without trading for a single player or signing anyone currently outside of our own system.

- JUST above the cap floor.

- Team's average age would be 27 years old.

- Sign TJ Hughes from the NCAA.

- Keep our 2024 1st round pick and pick Zeev Buium.

- Dump our vets for picks to use for rebuild assets. Send them to any team that will take them, the teams listed are just placeholders, any team that wants them is welcome to them.

Devils shouldn't be spending $5m on a player like Rakell. They can do more with that money and the 2nd rounder.

Says right in the description:

"Send them to any team that will take them, the teams listed are just placeholders, any team that wants them is welcome to them."

Any team that wants our vets and will give us picks to stockpile for our eventual full rebuild is more than welcome to them. We just need to offload them in this purely hypothetical scenario that would never actually happen.

Make it just a 2nd for Eller, and Smith 50%, and it’s closer to fair imo.

That's fair. The picks and teams are really just placeholders, I don't really care what picks we get, as long as we aren't sending them for nothing.

This is a purely hypothetical team that would never actually happen anyways. No team is going to exclusively promote internally, not trade for a single player or sign a single UFA.

I read that, but not sure many teams thar would line up to take on that contract with that length, but one fewer team to consider as a placeholder

Most teams are at the cap and just can't additional cap without sending similar cap back in trade. Besides, some players aren't playing up to their contract, the same reason the the author has traded them away.

I agree, this is prob the Pens future, but with a few caveats
1. Dubas was clear in recent interviews Graves is not moving
2. They need to keep 1 of Eller or Accari
3. Blom, Yager and Pickering should start in WBS. And Koivunen hasn't played in an NA rink yet so hell def be in WBS

id bet Rakell and Smith are gone. think Dubas is just waiting for offszn prices

Graves and Rakell and their negative value contracts are not going away that cheaply. Graves would take a 1st plus retention to move

SJ will take Smith and Rakell no retention with your 2024 1st and your 2026 2nd for FC
