Grzelcyk replacement

Created by: Jupa08
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 2, 2024
Published: Apr. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Assuming the Bruins are as in love with Lindholm as they are rumored to be I think we sign him and he centers a “defensive” line between Marchand and Debrusk.
- I don’t think Lohrei is ready for a full-time top 4 role and as good as Wothorspoon has been, asking him to step in full-time as a top 4/6 defenseman for a full season for the first time in his career is a big risk and a big ask. They’re going to have to look somewhere to get a top 4 defenseman to bridge the gap for Lohrei. So who are they going to target?

a couple things i think are weird here:
1. that you presume the bruins are in love with Lindholm. No one has indicated that. If they were, he'd be a bruin right now.
2. Grzelcyk isn't on the UFA list.

I’d ask for a sweetener from Boston and to remove the 3rd but if it came down to it I’d do it

Friedman reporting they tried to acquire Lindholm from both Calgary and Vancouver, but wanted to make sure that he’d sign before they traded for him and that they would love to revisit it in the summer if he makes it to free agency. That isn’t enough proof of interest for you?

We had the cap issues and limited draft capital going against us plus a pretty clear incentive to wait until the Summer if you believed he’d make it there.

I get some Boston fans want to redeploy resources differently and things can change, but it is pretty clear that Boston is very interested in Lindholm.

Do they love him enough to give him a 7 year, 7.25M AAV? That’s a question we’ll soon find out

With regards to the original question, I assume they want to resign Heinen. Wouldn’t be shocked to see them resign Grz depending on how the playoffs go, but assume we can find someone useful at the 3m range.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see them move on from Lauko.

okay, well what you just did was you took one word that means one thing, substituted another word that means something completely different, and acted like this false equivalency somehow proved something. strange.

I'm well aware of what Friedman reported, I heard him say it. I have no reason to think it isn't true as he's the best in the business. I absolutely believe Boston has interest in the player. Interest is a very subjective term that when establishing market value can have a pretty wide range of outcomes. Interest could be, "hey Calgary, we'll give you a 7th rounder and Forbort for the player, and hey Elias, how does a 3x3 extension sound to you?" That's interest. Interest could also be, "we need this player long term, what does it take? we'll do it." I would think, "in love," with the player would fall closer to the latter category, and I have seen no reporting, or evidence of that. In fact, we've seen evidence to the contrary.

Just a weird weird take my man.

Would Sweeney have made an effort with two different teams if he didn’t there was a workable deal?

I don’t believe he would and I’m pretty comfortable that Lindholm doesn’t sign a deal unless it’s close to market value.

The real question is what years and dollars would have been a workable deal

uhhh i have many questions before we get to that.
first, we don't know much about any attempt to get him out of vancouver.
Second, still stuck on some weird false equivalency here. ya, they're interested. how interested? we have no earthly idea.

I’m making the assumption that Sweeney doesn’t make an effort to acquire him with assets if he doesn’t believe it is a workable deal (per Friedman’s comments).

It isn’t a false equivalency. It’s an assumption you don’t agree with.

no no. see previous post. you took one concept, changed it to a completely different concept, and tried to act like it was the same thing.

friedman reported the bruins pursued lindholm when he was with calgary but wanted an extension sorted out first. all we know is that that didn't work out. could be for a lot of reasons. some examples:
1. Calgary said no
2. Lindholm's request was more than the bruins wanted to give.
3. sweeney was essentially kicking tires.

you're taking some facts, and extrapolating to conclusions without the necessary information.

So it’s one scenario that is possible, but there are other explainable options. We won’t know until July. Lots of options presence. I see Lindholm as a strong possibility
