Canes pass. They aren’t going to move Necas for the sake of moving him. Only way to start that conversation is going to be if one of Slafkovsky, Suzuki, or Caufield is a piece in the return.

They have many players to re-sign and cannot keep him. He will be 26 in January, his last time as an RFA. They need young defensemen and should trade him for the best return this summer. They would not ask Suzuki or Caufield; he is not worth that. They would ask for David Reinbacher or Lane Hutson. I would not trade any high-defence prospects for a forward who never scored 30 goals, has only had one good season in six years, and will ask for a minimum of $6 million per year ( MTL is already stocked with $6 Million third-line players, Josh Anderson and Brendan Gallagher)
