And why waste assets on a goalie, just sign one in FA

There isn't any good goaltenders on the market this year except for Samsonov or a high end backup (DeSmith, Brossoit etc.) I didn't want to give Sammy the big contract.

Zadorov and Grzeclyk are more experienced defensemen, whereas Lily is turning into the second coming of Jake Gardiner.

More experienced but worse defenders imo. Let’s see how Lili (& team) performs in playoffs before anointing him Gardiner 2.0.
Goalie position is voodoo - aside from a handful of guys, the rest are a crapshoot. Talbot stunk in Ottawa but has been great in LA. Quick was done in LA but is on fire with NYR. And let’s not forget how almost record settingly awful Sammy was in first half of season. Not sure he’s pricing himself out of Leafs but if so, I’m confident we can find 2 vet goalies (one stashed with Marlies) to compliment Woll
