I’m honestly…not against that Laine trade?

I see it as Elvis-for-Kemper in a change-of-scenery swap, and the rest of the package for Laine. So, a mid-1st, a late 2nd, and a few lottery ticket prospects?

Cool by me.

I'd want to take out Suzdalev but would otherwise I'm not against the columbus trade. Not sure if Toronto has interest in TVR but if they do this could be good for both sides.

Exactly what I was going for. Suzdalev is definitely a better prospect than Magnusson, but you never know! Cheers!

Maybe downgrade Suzdalev to a Karabela or Hyland? I thought it was a bit of an overpay for sure, but to get a guy that I think could thrive in our system like Laine, I'd do it.

And for Toronto, my thought process was I know they'd probably rather have Jensen, but TVR is a mil cheaper which is huge for them. And he could pair nicely with Reilly I think

I think it's just so hard to ballpark Laine's trade value right now. He's missed a large majority of this season and has been so up and down his whole career, but I swear he has the potential to pot 50 in a year in the right scenario. Maybe he meshes with McMichael or Lapierre and just lights it up. I can't see this offer being beaten out by anyone else. I think the 2024 1st and a low level prospect should be more than enough given his injury history and where Columbus is right now in their rebuild.

I'm not against the Laine trade even with Suzdalev taken out. Maybe throw in a late-round pick instead just to pick up another lottery ticket?

Laine + Elvis for Kuemper + 2024 1st + 2025 COL 2nd + 2025 WSH 5th + Magnusson?

Much less and Columbus just keeps him. But a few good draft picks and a few lottery tickets is probably enough to entice us to move an expensive player for whom we may have replacements already in the system.

Agreement from all parties? In this economy?! You call it into NHL front office, I'll get the champagne!

Laine was always an awkward fit with CBJ - they only traded for him because Jarmo caved into Dubois' shenanigans and made a panicked trade. Fluky injuries and shortened seasons have really hurt him, and his timeline doesn't line up with CBJ, particularly considering he doesn't have the term JG does.

He's still been roughly a .80 PPG guy with CBJ, which is saying something considering the mess CBJ have been since they got him, and the expectations they put on him to be That Guy, which he isn't (and that's OK!). Put him in the right system, and I totally agree he can be a legit first-line weapon again.

And yeah, I'm still in shock over how universally liked this trade is. That just...doesn't happen on CapFriendly. Or even the internet.
