Montreal doesn’t do that

It’s not even close. Mikheyev and retained Anderson are about the same value. Pius Suter is an average third liner. Klimovich is a B- - prospect. Dach is a young 2c signed to an awesome deal

Realistically neither team does this. Montreal shouldn’t sell low on Dach and the Canucks shouldn’t take on Anderson’s contract with the only incentive being a guy who can’t stay healthy while also losing a cost effective middle 6 guy

No, Mikheyev without retention is a cap dump. He cost at least a second to dump. Anderson with 15% retention cost like a second to dump too.

And in no world is Vancouver declining this. Losing a replaceable 3c for a cost controlled 2c

Mikheyev has slightly positive to slightly negative value, but he’s still a useful player, especially defensively. Anderson at 4.675M still costs at least a 1st to dump if not more

Dach career high: 38 points
Suter career high: 36 points

Dach is far from a definite 2C. He has high potential yes, but his value will be at an all time low coming off of yet another injury, this one the most major one he’s had yet

Milheyev is a useful fourth liner making 5m. That’s a cap dump. Anderson is a fourth liner making 5,5m. You have to take into account the retention, wich is very valuable these days.

Dach did that in 30 less games than Suter. He is clearly a second liner

Mikheyev is a 3rd liner who can play in the top 6 if necessary. At worst he’s a good bottom 6 player who provides good defense and PK ability. He’s also in his first year post ACL surgery which has played a part into his struggles this season

Anderson is a 4th liner who is also awful defensively. Even with the retention down to 4.675M he’d have significant negative value

Until Dach can stay healthy and produce at a 2nd line level I wouldn’t call him a locked in 2C. And coming back from a major knee injury like his is tough. His trade value right now is at an all time low

Overall in this deal the Canucks lose cap space, get significantly worse on the wing, and lose a valuable cheap middle 6 player just so they can take a risk on a guy who has a high ceiling but low floor with his injury history. It doesn’t make sense from our perspective

Mikheyev is a fourth liner. He is bad and a huge cap dump. Anderson is a fourth liner who is also a huge cap dump.

Suter can be easily replaced in FA.

So when Mikheyev has an ACL injury, his value is still good, but when Dach has one, that destroys his value? Coming back from an injury is a normal thing in this league

It is a trade that makes no sense for either party.

A couple of counter points
First Mik is not a 4th line player, he played last year on the 1st line with a torn ACL and then the recovery time to full speed is 18 months so we wont see that this year.
Second Suter can't be easily replaced in FA for his cap hit, he is averaging the 5th most ice time for the Canucks forwards, you are not filling that for 1.6M.
Last on the counter points you're trying to compare Dach to Mik which a) I don't think are the two guys you should be comparing and b) as an off season trade you're now talking about a fully healed Mik and Dach wh still wont be up to speed until April 2025 and his injury was a full tear of the ACL and MCL which is more serious.


Forget about the fact that Canucks lose 2 guys that are versatile and have regularly played games in the top 6 and kill penalties and are on the PP and have been successful playing in the bottom 6.
Even if you look at it and see that for next year Dach for Suter is a wash and Mik for Anderson is a wash the Canucks are still giving up a prospect but that probably doesn't matter next year, except its another asset they don't have for the future.
Forget that because more importantly the Canucks as they are trying to build a contender this trade has them take on more cap and take on an extra year of Anderson's contract.

And it is a bad trade for the Habs because you take the bet 7 days a week that Dach will have a better future than Suter long term.

So to conclude Dach for Suter is a huge risk for the Canucks as Dach is over twice as expensive and coming off a major injury and a bad trade for the Habs because Dach is the younger player with potentially more upside.
Mik for Anderson is a bad trade for the Canucks because it adds an extra year of term, but honestly not a bad bet for the Habs and it adds a special teams guy.
Canucks lose a prospect that could be used in a trade that would help them now.

Mikheyev is much better than a 4th line player. He has 30 points despite only having 1 goal in his last 47 games, and is good defensively. He’s a 3rd liner who can play up in the lineup if necessary. It was also reported at the deadline that he has positive trade value around the league

Suter can be replaced but it’ll likely be a more expensive player. Having him at 1.6M is nice for next season

Mikheyev and Dach’s knee injuries weren’t the same. Mikheyev had a partially torn ACL. Dach has a torn ACL and MCL. And the injury has lowered Mikheyev’s value as he has been a lot worse this year than he was last year

You guys can argue all you want about Mikheyev, But Habs don’t do this trade

Anderson was also reported to have interest across the team…

Third line center don’t go for too much on the market. You could easily get a better one for 2m

Dach and Mikheyev’s injuries aren’t the same but Dach also prove he can recover quickly from a season ending injury
