They need to shed cap. They re-signed Hanifin and are paying Hertl's full contract right.

They did resign Hanifin but he is only going to be making 2.1M more than Martinez who's contract is expiring. Hertl's contract is retained for all 7 years.

Do they have to shed some cap to keep Marchessault? Yeah probably but not much, and trading Barby to do that is completely counterproductive

Horrible trade for Vegas. That package from Jersey is five mid-value pieces. Nothing of quality in return for Vegas, who is giving up three quality assets in this trade
