I really think Kane will be traded this offseason, so this is a realistic option. What do you think the return would be?

We aren't ever going to trade for Kane. He's not a locker room player. Isle's really favor community type players.

And he has facial hair...

We all know Lou doesn't like that

Kane really does seem like he's changed his life around, ie he's very involved with the local community and charities. But it seems like he's worn out his welcome in the locker room.

Pageau?

I would do either, preferably the Wahlstrom one.

The only reason I wouldn't is strictly because I'd want the sure thing. Pageau gives McLeod the opportunity to remain on Draisaitl's left flank permanently and finds Edmonton their best RHC since Strome/Letestu. Having that #3C locked down with a cheap solution at #2LW is a wonderful thing to have.

Wahlstrom would come in as a cheap bottom-six winger, already competing with (assuming they stick around) Brown, Lavoie, Perry, and likely a free agent option to contend for middle-six work. Maybe he does well up the lineup? But it comes at the cost of Carrick et al being the best option we have for a RHC and likely means that both top-six wings alongside Draisaitl are in need of names to play those roles. The free agent pool this year is poor.

Ultimately the draft pick in return with Wahlstrom isn't doing a lot for me either. Having a healthy prospect pool is a good thing yes, but again, it's Mission Stanley until Connor and Leon aren't Oilers any longer.

That's why the price seems so high... And I think he retains RFA status for 3 years

I can't justify retaining on that for 4 years. Especially for no return.
In 4 years this team will be selling assets for rebuild, and it will need those slots to move guys out for assets and make sure they get 1OA picks.
If it was a 2 year retention I'd be all for it. But I foresee picking top 5 in the next 3 years.
