Description
My attempt to clean up this team. I will admit, I don't follow the league the same way I did in my 20's, but I think I can take a shot. A lot of their RFA's I am going short term, decent money. Hopefully, the cream rises to the top. This team needs a vibe change, especially if they want to compete in the Metro. No UFA signing this year.

1.
CBJ
  1. Gourde, Yanni
  2. Grubauer, Philipp
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (SEA)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (SEA)
  5. 2026 1st round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
Getting rid of some of the negative energy. Seattle needs goals, maybe Laine can help, both Elvis and Phillip aren't preforming. They have similar contracts. Gudbranson can replace Shultz. The picks are for Laine. If he hits certain goals, it helps CLB.
2.
CBJ
  1. Garland, Conor ($1,200,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Giving Boone a chance to shine in VAN. Maybe he can win something there. Garland might help with scoring and might be better in a smaller market.
3.
CBJ
  1. 2026 1st round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Seems like a bust of a trade for CLB. He can join the Russians in FLA for another cup run. It doesn't seem like all there D is coming back next year.
FLA
  1. Provorov, Ivan ($2,000,000 retained)

So you opted to follow up your prior atrocious attempt at a Jackets trade with a crappy giveaway of Boone Jenner.

I'm now convinced this is a troll.

I'm all for trading Boone while his value is high, and I'm all for brining in Garland...but not one-for-one. Columbus would need to get some kind of significant futures for that in addition.

The rest is honestly probably fine, but Marchenko is going to demand a little more, and Seattle probably nixes that trade.

Other than that trade, this actually isn't bad. You can see OP put at least a little thought into the RFA contracts, which is more than I expect for any non-Jackets fan. But it's hard not to wonder "Jeez, what did we do to you, Caps fan?" about this as a whole.

Dumping Gudbranson with retention (a fundamentally unhelpful move) is just more evidence against, and delaying a return on Provorov for another two years doesn't strike me as particularly good either. Grubauer-for-Elvis is a net loss for the Jackets - we spend more money with the same term on an older goalie with a worse buyout and at best similar numbers. The picks for Laine are about the only nice bit.

Agreed on the Gudbranson (we all know how I feel about him) part. I don't want to move Laine at all. But... it's still not a particularly bad trade, though.

A first for Provorov's absence from the roster works for me no matter how it comes in, and who knows maybe Florida falters a bit by summer 2026.

Garland has been so good for the Canucks this year. Whenever a line has been struggling Tocchet has put Garland on that line to get them going. The production has been slightly better for Garland over the past few years and Garland is younger. Cap hit is 1 million more for same amount of years. I think the Canucks stick with a guy they know works in their locker room and pass on the deal.

The Boone trade allows two things to happen. Makes rooms for centers (There are so many in the system), and brings in some wing scoring. I think we can agree Boone isn’t a 4th line center, and I think we can agree we don’t want the guys talent on the 4th line. His value wont grow on the 4th line. You need to make room somewhere. And I know he is the captain, but he might be part of toxic environment. Or maybe with him leaving Johnny can take more of a leadership role and let it rip.

Gudbranson, I agree retaining money is never good, but you can’t have 4 right handed D playing at the same time. They drafted, traded for, and signed enough right handed D. Let him go. The team sucks. I don’t think any idea is bad at this point.
