We picked him at 33 and he’s been a pretty good NHL player. I just don’t know if Hague is the odd man out but could be

If Buchnevich had an extension maybe you get Necas but as it is Carolina says no thanks.

Buch is a real nice player... but you wouldn't get close for that in a return form Carolina. Beyond that, there is 0% chance that Necas signs that term or amount. I'd say his floor is 6x6. I don't really see a situation where he'd take less than 6 years or 6M per.

Are you treating KK like a cap dump of some level?

More-so an experiment than pure cap dump. We need center depth, he's young and would fit their window, and if it didn't work out the worst-case scenario would be a cheap buyout that likely wouldn't happen at least for a few more years considering the cap flexibility they'll likely have.

I get that, but are you assigning value to him in the trade one way or the other?

No "value" but upside potential.

Gotcha. Well, I can't see Carolina offering anything more than Necas, if that. And personally, I can do without KK. He could pay off, but it's a gamble and I'd rather let Dvorsky and Dean get more ice before we stick a long contract in there.
