Post Dubas Press Conference

Created by: PenaFanatic
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2024
Published: Apr. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dubas has a plan this is what I think the plan is based off of what he had to say:
I do think coaches wise they are fired outside Sullivan. Sullivan will remain HC but rest are fired and Dubas will I think have a lot of say whos hired and designed for what role. Say what you will about Sullivan (I Think He Should Be Fired) but the run at the end maybe the message isn't necessarily dead and guys still can buy in?

FA Signings: Dakota Joshua: Think hes young (27) can provide more to the bottom 6 then Bemstrom or other guys we have had this year. Does a lot on the ice I like
Matt Roy: I think Pens will sign some insurance on the defence. I think if Letang is significantly hurt that probably means surgery and more rehab I think he starts on LTIR... hence the Roy signing. I think if Letang comes back he fits back into the top 4 and drop roy to 3rd pairing. St Ivany I have starting there. If he struggles then maybe he slides out and bring back trust Chad to help or if he is solid and Letang comes back pens maybe have assets to trade (Bounce Back Graves...? or P.O.J.)
Foegele: Bottom 6 guy can bounce up when needed think he brings scoring to bottom 6. If Rakell (My bounce back candidate doesn't those two can swap)
Rest of signings are for AHL purposes and guys who can call up when needed due to injury etc.

I do think DOC breaks out, Sid Rust do their thing. Bunting will be serviceable and will help with Malkin: Rakell bounces back and I really liked that line down the stretch)
Eller is solid Foegele has more offensive touch which I think helps Puusty.
4th line is youthful but also why Accari is a scratch he gets a bad rep based on how year went he is solid and can provide structure to a potentially weaker line.
Jarry sounds like he stays but Blomqvist I think will take the position (RIP Ned)

Cap space even when Letang is back (3 mill) If Letang isn't LTIR then I probably don't sign Roy and sign more depth pieces.

I don't know what's going on in your head, but Roy tells you to take that 2 year deal and shove it.

Frankly I could care less what Dubas has to say. The penguins have switched assistant coaches before. It isn't the answer.
The only news penguins fans want is how many days does it take to fire the head coach.

This team can't spend to cap ceiling next year unless it's 1 year deals and you aren't getting anyone great on a 1 year deal in FA.
They need money for DOC, MP and Crosby next year.

Also this idea that how lines worked this year will determine how they work next year is a failure.
People said the same mess about Zucker, Brassard, Rackell......... enough.

Roy ain't signing that and he ain't coming to PIT on what he will sign.
The rest of this is no better next year than this one. No fix to the defense will be the death of this team. That 3rd pairing of POJ and Ivany sucks.
Don't tell me you put Graves on the 3rd pairing for the vast majority of the season Graves was pulling 2LD minutes, up till he got hurt at the end of the year.

This team needs a miracle and for it's youth to step up and play major roles already. If they can't get something out of their younger players the season is over, because they can't find enough talent in FA to turn this tire fire around.

LA (and most teams) would pay in excess of $5M.

We'll do Riley Smith 50% retained for Kaliyev.

Hawks might consider taking Smith for that 3rd. But Pens aren't getting anything back.

Matt Roy will sign a deal close to $6m AAV my friend. Unfortunately, I think it’s not going to happen with the Kings but he definitely won’t accept 2 years for $3,95m. Expect him to sign 6 or 7 years

Even though I somehow don’t see Smith as a good fit, I like this idea. Win/Win for both sides

Dubas and Blake have a history together, he wants to do a quick rebuild, Kaliyev to the Pens means he doesn't hurt LA too much if the trade works. At $2.5M Riley Smith has done his best work in the Pacific Division. I believe there was a rumored trade earlier. We know Smith has sucked in Pitt, hoping he looks closer to what he did in Vegas.

dubas won't be paying to get rid of smith and also won't give any retention. a 6th/7th coming back for smith at 5m. teams will take him to sell him half retained at the tdl.
