Minnesota isn't trading you the 13th overall draft pick in return for two bottom-pairing defensemen and a pick in the late 50's. Don't you think that they'd rather have Greentree or Hage themselves instead of that package? (And that assumes that all of Parekh, Silayev and Yakemchuk and the most highly-rated European forwards are all off the board, too.)

Personally I see Harris and Struble and middle pairing dmen. And NHL ready. Never know what a draft pick can become. Habs have that luxury. They might be upgrades on Gologoski, Merrill and/or Bogosian as early as next year. But thank you for your perspective.

Why would the Wild do this? If we were to trade our 1st, it would be for somebody that can help us now. And quality before quantity.

None of the 3 defensemen you named are 2nd pairing defensemen though. The only reason any of them moved up the lineup was due to injuries up the lineup (Spurgeon and Brodin) and our lack of cap room to do anything else. I think almost any Minnesota fan would prefer to see what Judd Brackett can do with a pick in the top half of the draft than take on what will be a 23 and a 24 year old who MAY have 2nd pairing upside. Our competitive window is more aligned with the draft pick maturing than it is with a 24 year old.

I can't imagine this would have been the best offer Guerin has gotten for a 1st round pick since taking over the team in 2019 and he has yet to trade one yet (except when we moved up in the 2020 1st round). I don't see this package changing that trend.
