Team: 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 20, 2024
Published: Apr. 20, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petry trade is a cap dump, adjust picks as needed. Maatta has some value as a veteran D to stabilize a rebuilding team. Based on post season presser it seems like they're gonna run Husso and Lyon again. Not a ton of room to make aquisitions unless Kane goes somewhere else. Get some young guys into the lineup who will be eligible for waivers and maintain stability.

That isn't enough for CHI to take Petry's contract. But if DET is willing to pay what it would take and CHI isn't on his no trade list, I'm sure we could work something out.

That isn’t anywhere close to being enough for Chicago to take
On Detroit’s 95 year old d-man.

What do you think eating 2M for a year'll cost?

Closer to $2.5M, but, probably something in the realm of a 3rd, maybe slightly more, with nothing going back to DET. I think CHI would prefer to package their own picks together, in combination with taking on cap, to increase the value they are receiving, as well.

The thing is, CHI's GM just announced yesterday in an exit interview/presser that they want to make improvements and that they don't feel they can have a repeat of this season, being at the bottom of the standings. Some of that is certainly lip service and we shouldn't expect too much improvement. Also, players have to WANT to sign with CHI, which is probably a tough sell right now. A lot of CHI's failures this season can be attributed to the mountain of injuries they sustained, but I doubt they are looking to add more cap dumps or injury prone players, they likely want to add more leadership and skill. Also, i'd be willing to bet CHI is on his "No Trade List".

A lot of teams have been stubborn the last couple of years not wanting to pay the price for their mistakes, and they likely missed their window to dump their problems on CHI. CHI presented themselves as an option and every team passed and colluded in attempts to drive down the cost of moving cap. So, there will probably be other teams with cap space that are willing to help teams out for a price, i guess, but it's unlikely to be CHI anymore, unless they are receiving something that is a big need and/or is too good to pass up. Maybe working something out around a desirable prospect could work. CHI should be in the market for high end forwards and RD.

Puckpedia’s cap relief calculator suggests a mid 2nd round pick, that seems a little steep to me, so I would think a 3rd round pick for taking Petry’s final year cap hit of $2,343m would do. Detroit gets FC in return.

Petry isn't waiving to come to Chicago. Or to be traded anyplace else either. If the Wings want him gone, they most likely need to buy him out. And Hawks probably don't take him for less than a 3rd. Then they just buy him out.

He has a 15 team "No Trade List". So it isn't entirely up to him. But yeah, i'd be willing to bet CHI is on that list and he has no intention of going into a rebuild.

You can't Petry is already double retained, Plus he only makes like $2,375,000 as it is.

Yeah I'm pretty sure there's zero chance of Petry leaving his hometown for the likes of Chicago.
