Dude, he looked nothing like this with the Blues. He was physical, yeah, and he won draws. But he was so timid with or around the puck. If he'd shown any of this at all, they'd have kept him. I can bag on Army for several brutal decisions since 2020, but exactly nobody in STL thought Joshua was anything to hang onto. It was kinda the same in Toronto. He late bloomed on us.

Sanford always showed a really good toolbox before getting to STL, and I don't think Washington was super excited to give him up. Plus, I'm not sure he late bloomed as much as he temporarily figured things out playing with ROR and Frenchy (quite a luxury indeed).

The first name I immediately thought of was Pavol Demitra.

2 of them aren’t even playing and couldn’t help the Sens right now

Ah yes, bad moves only count when they are recent. I'm sure the sens did perfectly ok without those players and nothing would have changed.

He left because they didn't want to re-sign him. What's more, it's not like 30 other teams were clamoring for him, either. And "playing well" is quite the stretch.

Yet as soon as VAN picked him up, they saw him as a possible 3/4c

Canucks pro scouting staff is legit. Essentially rebuilt the bottom six and dcore over the offseason with minimal cap space.

absolutely. Im so bummed. I would be the best Pro Scout on the Sens. The guys i wanted last offseason were:

Brian Dumoulin
Evan Rodrigues
Pius Suter
Corey Perry
Anthony Stolarz

Awesome for them. Do remember that when Joshua was in STL, the Blues were still overloaded with Cs. His first call-ups only happened because the Blues were in the midst of a biblical injury crisis where literally half the team was missing all at the same time for weeks.

Also, let's not pretend the Canucks brought him in thinking he'd be a 3C or even a regular. He spent almost his entire first season there getting scrap 4LW minutes, and not doing that well with them. He had four points in his first 19 VAN games, eight in his first 35 VAN games, and was -16 through 59 games that season. And then something clicked for him.

They targeted him, saying he could be a future 3/4c. He's a Goodrow type, where points don't matter

Heh. Points don't matter, but nobody was saying anything about Joshua until he reeled off 21 goals and 40 points in his last 75 games.

And if you have a link where they said they were targeting him to maybe be a 3C, I will certainly read it. I think you're confusing the time of his signing with Tocchet being hired. He's the one who talked about him having potential up the lineup and playing him at C. Before then, Joshua was a 4LW going nowhere and getting no attention.

hard to say they "got rid of" Hyman he left in FA because they couldn't afford him. This happens to all teams.
