Since public enemy number 1 has to be traded now

Created by: hockeynutter
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2024
Published: Apr. 24, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Before everyone says how St Louis says no or TO says no or whatever else. That is not the point of this trade. It is to show the type of deal the leafs needs for Marner as they are built in the now and any trade we make should be thinking about a quality top 6 forward and top 4 DMan minimum back.

no. you could take out Neighbors or take out Parayko, and the answer is still no.

I am not arguing. Because every team has their own values for what's a player is worth. Reality Marner is a yearly 85-100 point defensively responsible winger. Capable of 30+ goals. A player like that would need a lot. Toronto is not rebuilding, thus they will not want a top prospect, first round pick and top 9 forward. They will want a quality top 6 six forward and top 4 high quality DMan. Is it fair, in terms of value yes, so this deal makes sense there. The problem lies within the fact that does a trade where Neighbors and Parayko are traded key cogs in their current lineup. Likely not.
If you read my description, I mentioned ai get how many ppl will comment their nos, that was the point. A Marner trade would be a very hard proposition for both teams based on value, need, and what both are willing to give up.

I could see a few...I could also see Toronto acquiring a guy like Pesce in UFA and trading Marner for a guy like Necas or something...

Zub's another option, or you could go younger with a guy like Rienbacher...

Pulock, Marino, etc.

Blues pass easily. Marner only has one year left and the Blues will not be willing to give him the contract he thinks he deserves. Doesn't matter if you claim the extension is in place. Blues wouldn't give him more than Thomas.

There are options I agree, the problem is not the availability as we would need a top 6 and a top 4 it's that which team would trade such player as a player like reinbacher is a future move but yes he looks to be a stud. That is where the problem lies teams prefer to trade a 1st, a top 5 prospect not top 2, and a middling forward whom can maybe use a change of scenery. This is not what Toronto needs for Marner. marner is worth a quality top 6 forward and a high quality top 4 rhd and I am sure all teams would agree. That does not mean those team will also be willing to trade such as such a trade can mess with their chemistry and makeup.

Again if you read my description, the idea was to to spur comments like yours knowing they will come. The idea was to prove what a trade for Marner is actually worth and the fact that I don't see many teams including St Louis willing to trade where they view as fair or not for a variety of reasons, cap, chemistry, trading Parayko etc...so in actual reality the concept of value makes sense but in reality is a big time no!

I think if the Leafs were to move Marner... I think it would be for a top 4 RHD and picks/prospects...

I agree and am fine with it. My issue of free agency. We trade prior to July 1st obviously and then we are left with hoping said player signs with us to replace what else got missed with a trade as you presented for top 6 production. It's not i.possible to trade Marner and the value is absolutely there. Its more based on what other teams want to trade that is worth it for TO. Many reports last year stated Toronto was not offered a single top 4 DMan for Nylander and they were willing comparable salary to make it work. Apparently all offers were future based!

I wish the armchair GM allows three way deals because a trade that is 3 way almost makes it more likely.

I still like Marner and absolutely see his value. His next deal probably comes around 12 mill and with a salary cap of around 91 and if we resign Tavares under 6 million preferably between 3.5 and 4.5 gives us a ton of flexibility. Problem is whether Tavares can still be an effective 2c, and will Nylander, Marner, Matthews continue to produce like they are for 5 years.

No one reads the descriptions. Maybe another team will, but the Blues aren't paying a premium for this guy...

Most teams would not pay a premium even if Marner is worth it. Because a premium can also mess with cap, chemistry, friendships etc... thus a trade like this would not happen and the point was to show the kind of value Toronto needs and is fair. The fact that the other team will want the upper hand always and not play fair, which means not premium value makes it very hard trade for Marner period.

Marner has 1 year remaining and a complete NMC. Decent chance he decides to walk after next season and you get nothing…

Marner won't be going anywhere. Even if Toronto was willing to retain a boatload of salary to get someone to bite on him he wouldn't waive anyhow.
