Gardiner is good. this trade seriously lacks value, even if you take on Lupuls contract

Eh, it's not actually that bad for the Leafs. Getting a 2nd and Speers is really good (Speers looks to be an NHLer as soon as this year). Kujawinski might end up being a bottom six guy with more seasoning. You clear Lupul's deal and with Gardiner out, you get down below the cap again. Honestly think it's pretty fair.

Maybe theres can be some tweeks in prospects/picks, But I highly doubt he is a Leaf after this contract anyway with all the young guys due new contracts. Also, Toronto is one of the few teams I th8ink has enogh in their pool to spare a top 4 D. Perhaps exchange Lupul's contract for Horton, get those 3 years off the books but then I think the Leafs need to give more then Gardiner. A 3 year dead contract totaling over 15 Mil isn't ganna be cheap to move, and that'll hamper signing Matthews

And why do you think Leafs have Lupul and Horton contracts?, exactly to do what they are doing now, we are over the cap on base of IR, during season on base LTIR can be over 10M cap relief....there is no cap problem in TOR why people don't understand. Keep your spare parts, Gardiner is part of team core and is not going anywhere for now.

Yes a 2nd+meh prospect is fair for a very solid top 4 defender in Gardiner.....
If Gardiner was on any other team in the NHL he would be rated so much more highly. He is a much better player than the injury prone Hamonic who returned a 1st and 2 2nds.

Also Lou mentioned the Leafs could use off-season LTIR soooo no cap problem

wotisthebest: not only Lou can use LTIRs, but all teams near the cap will using them. This fascination about the Leafs cap....is fascinating
