I really don't get why.
Hall is better then Shara, taking his roster spot.
Like Clarke but he's at that age now where he's too good for the AHL and there's no spot for him on this team.
Like Vilen, but when is the earliest we see him? Four years from now with the D we have on the roster?
You could talk me into the added second being to much, but I think that's what could tip it over another teams offer.
Devils are in "Go for it" mode. This fanbase is stuck with hoarding assets cause that's what we been used to for ten years. Be smart about it sure but trading two prospects that wont see significant time until they are 25 years old on this team for 100+ games of Taylor Hall is absolutely worth it. Dude is still one of the best possession players in the game. Need depth scoring. If you get a cup in either of those two years with Hall, it's what brings you over the top. Rather then player with only potential to be a middle six winger and a bottom pair defenseman on this team.

What Do We Do
There aren't many players that could be moved that are really worth the 2OA. They're supposedly making a list of players that they'd consider moving for. From all the rumors I just don't see it. None of Vancouver's players are worth it. I get Miller is incredible but his age doesn't fit with the core, especially enough to give up assets for. I can see Fiala but Minn would have to add. Debrincat is right value wise but I'd personally rather draft Slaf.
The only name I've been seeing floating around that'd be a slam dunk is Matt Tkachuk, it'd be 2OA plus a lot but still worth it. Less than a 5% chance he's ever moved, playoff teams dont trade under 25 players who score 100 points, but I can see it if contract negotiations go real bad this summer.
Point is Devils aint moving this pick unless its for a point per game player under 26 with team control.

Yea it will, but I believe if he does leave Calgary, he'd wanna go to Philly, and if not them then NJ would be second choice. He fits well with them and still close to home. I'm not really sure how Calgary's cap situation is, I know both him, Mang and Tkachuk all need new deals. I'm hoping Calgary gets scared off from the 10mil.

In order
1. All the money at Gaudreau
2. Trade the 5th overall for Fiala
3. Zacha++ for Garland
Forsberg would be great too but the injuries give me pause. Boeser would be too expensive, in both trade and contract, for what he brings in my opinion. Everyone else I'd rather stay the course then sign.

Show me one trade comp where a team gave up a top-prospect and a top-5 pick for a winger without a contract? Just one. Doesn’t have to be exact…closest one you got.
I’ll wait.</div></div>
Not exact, but Devils did trade 10th Overall (Bo Horvat) for Schneider two years away from UFA. Fiala is real good, real good needs to go back to get him. I dont think the risk is worth it for the Devils all things considered but a 1 for 1 trade between these two is understandable from both sides.

I'd pass, 5th Overall is a high price and feel they'd be better using that for something else and going the UFA route this year for wing help. Miller's great and definitely worth a 1st+ but maybe just not from the Devils unless it's an underpay.
Walsh and a 3rd for DiPietro though.

How Much for your Goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I don’t care about their rebuilds either…I care about giving up those amounts.
Goalies are unpredictable. So hard to tell year-to-year who will be good and who will not.
I’d like to see Blackwood healthy with his job on the line, and other options like Daws, Schmid and someone like Samsonov all competing for starts.
Others you could add: Binnington, Varlomov, Grubauer, Murray. Contracts are higher, but trade cost will be less coming off poor seasons. And free agents (Kuemper, Campbell, Husso, etc)</div></div>
I get you, I do. But the core is already there in NJ. I get the whole Goalies are voodoo thing but this year has proved you do actually have to invest in the position and not just have some stop gap and scrubs. I've lost faith in Blackwood and I think the Devils could be a FORCE in 2023-2024 if they can somehow snag a top 10 goalie.
Grubaurer and Murray I dont think are upgrades, Binnington isn't good enough to justify that term and hit, If they are going to struggle resigning these ELCs eventually, better be for a goalie whos better. Varlomov would be the same as Crawford and Bernier, a stop gap 1B but you still hoping Blackwood can emerge into something he's not.

I think it's pretty fair as a straight up trade being honest. Potential for maximum buyers remorse for the Devils so not sure they'd pull the trigger, but it is a fair deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>I think the best option, considering cost, among those listed would be Samsonov. Maybe Vladar if Calgary thinks Wolf is ready.
Hellebuyck, Gibson will cost an arm and a leg and I would be reluctant to offer an amount that could be the foundation for someone else’s rebuild.
Knight and Askarov probably would apply to this too. But windows match up with ours, so a little better.
DiPietro, Tarasov and Wolf are prospects and unclear if they will provide an upgrade to Daws or Schmid (or faster timeline). Although Wolf’s ceiling is pretty high.
Blomqvist likely stays put as they just dealt Clang.
Detroit doesn’t have the goalie depth to move Nedeljkovic.
Boston isn’t moving Swayman on his ELC.
And Lehner’s injury issues may not be worth it.
So that leaves Samsonov and Vladar.</div></div>
See, I don't really care about helping out another teams rebuild. Especially in the west. I want to know what this team is with an above average goalie, so I'd be comfortable paying close to the world for Hellebuyck, Knight, or Askarov. I agree Boston won't move Swayman but I'd offer sheet him next year if there is no luck on getting a good goalie this year.

Helle has said he's good as long as the Jets continue to try to contend so the speculation about moving him should die down... probably better options here. i.e. Lehner and the knights are probably done so he'll need to be moved.</div></div>
I mean, If I was GM I'd do it. Loosing Mercer would hurt but usually fair trades hurt the heart on both sides a bit. I think their our easier options out there but Helle would be the best choice, always liked him. Maybe Nemec falls a bit and Mercer+Nemec for him. I think thats a pretty good return

Probably some conditions on that 2nd round pick. Something like 'Becomes a 1st if Devils make the playoffs and Gibson plays more than 60% of eligible games.' I think that's around fair value considering Anaheim is going full rebuild. Ducks get younger and fill out their roster. They also have two of the best goalie prospects in the league. Devils probably one of the few teams that need and can afford to take that risk on a struggling goalie with that cap hit.
Wouldn't be shocked to see Gaudreau get that. His camps going to rightfully ask for Panarin money. Think teams are going to start at 8mil. Split the difference to 9.5. But even at 10 or 10.25, Devils should sign him.

Sure, but the Devil's probably don't WANT to move Severson either. Knies will be very good but he's probably not playing in the NHL until the 2023-2024 season. I think Severson is massively underrated by other fanbases and the Leafs getting him for two years and Zacha would drastically increase their chances for winning a cup in the next two seasons. If they don't win, I dont see Dubas making it until 2024 which makes this trade increase the likelihood of him keeping his job.

If they don't get a haul like this for him, I would agree. Devils should resign Severson. This is also taking into the thinking that the Devils will be drafting Nemec or Jiricek with their first rounder this year who could hopefully fill in Severson's role in a year or two and move past Hamilton when he inevitably starts to decline.

Dreidger had success in Florida, goalies usually wanna stay where they have success, look at how devastated Lehner was when the isles wouldnt resign him. Also, hes a professional athlete, even if he isn't the most competitive person and cares about money MORE than winning, no athlete want's to not play the game they made a career of to just sit and watch. He was driven enough to want to be the best at one point, thats not all gone... he just got old and isn't as good.
