1 year of Marner isn't getting a top 10 pick, Buium is also probably staying in the NCAA next year
Seattle declines pretty quickly
St. Louis takes that and runs

Yes, Marner will need an extension in place. Same with Buch.

That's not how that works. They are still valued as rentals for the sake of trade purposes. Extensions would be signed after the trade is made if at all

A late first, a fringe nhl prospect, and an average nhl player…ya I’d rather resign Buch or just wait until the deadline.

Assuming no major surprises with the remainder of R1 Toronto's pick will either be 22nd or 23rd. That's not exactly a late 1st. Minten has literally already played in the NHL, you can also literally click on his page to see his scouting analysis and projection. Calling him a fringe prospect is just ignorant. Jarnkrok is a fine player good for 35 points a season with a solid 2-way game and you could easily flip him for another 2nd.

How is that not a comparable return to Lindholm? The difference in prospect caliber is not that far off and you would be getting an almost guaranteed higher 1st round pick by at least 4 spots.

Maybe this is as simple as I'm a lot higher on Minten then you guys

Maybe value wise it’s fine but would want good young dman preferably. Also don’t see Minton being anything special. Change him out for Easton Cowan then maybe. (And yes I know he’s a forward too)

Kuzmenko when he was traded was not exactly viewed as anything more than a cap dump. He's also more expensive And a massive defensive liability.

See I understand that but I never saw him as that! Hes always been a very skilled player. Not to mention Buch has been playing better than lindholm for the last few years too

You can view him however you want but Vancouver actively wanted out of his contract for next season. Even if Calgary retains next deadline (which is likely) I don't view Kuzmenko getting a much better return than Mantha got this year, a 2nd and 3rd, simply due to his faults as a player. I can say with confidence that Jarnkrok can probably return a 2nd at the deadline too. He is not as good offensively as Kuzmenko but he is cheaper and way better defensively.

Buch also plays a less valuable position than Lindholm. Lindholm despite the bad season this year will still get a fairly big deal this summer due to his strong defensive play and ability to play very tough minutes, as well as the constant need for centers around the league.

That’s completely fair, and I understand all your points

But if the blues don’t get a Lindholm type return I’d honestly rather they keep him.

No, I'm expecting to work on an extension. He's not on the block, a typical on the block offer ain't gonna fly. Besides, Minten does not fill a need. Jarnkrok would be nice to have, but not like this. He's also not a need. If Buch goes as things stand, it will be for a package that addresses a real need.
