Rossi to the Island - NYI Perspective

Created by: ms39
Team: 2024-25 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 28, 2024
Published: Apr. 28, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Islanders get a young, two-way center. I don't see Lou generally retaining salary, but for one year would do it to make the cap difference negligible for both sides. Minnesota gets a big center prospect in Danny Nelson, a win-now center in Minnesota-born Brock Nelson, and a reclamation project in (also big) Oliver Wahlstrom. Brock, like Johansson, will be a UFA after 2025, so it's up to Minnesota if they want to try to re-sign him with the Parise and Suter buyouts no longer being so punitive, or flip him at the deadline.

He wins more puck battles than every isles center, not sure what him being 5’9 has to do with anything

That's not saying much. But regardless, we don't need pint-size players. Come on, we can do better.

Size is irrelevant. 5’9 182 is not pint sized - you wouldn’t take Marchand, Canfield , jack hughes, kucherov, ehlers or point on the isles because of their size?

He's not close to any of those guys....Not trading Nelson for Rossi.

He actually does have a lot of similarities to point. He’ll be a PPG center in his prime.

Isles aren’t close to contending. Trading a soft 33 YO top 6 center should be a priority
