Dubas never had the final say in TO. Shanahan told him what to do. Dubas I think is a good GM. He'll make the right moves. Pittsburgh should sell everything and rebuild. Dubas will see you through that. Still unsure of how good he is but I think he stopped Shanahan from a lot of really bad ideas.

The one thing Dubas didn't do was sign 30 year olds to major term. For what the player could do in his younger years. It's a problem still and it never seems to change but Dubas didn't do that. His track record with goalies certainly isn't good but give him sometime.

So fire Shanahan?

Team is grossly unbalanced (Dubas + Treliving tandem);
Top-6 = solid
Top-3 = solid
Pipes = 1 solid 'hopefully' (Woll)
Bench = fail

Carlo? Pesce in FA? Andersson? Manson? There are some names that I'd be okay with on top of this, Hronek comes to mind if they want to get expensive...

FYI
Carlo's signed until end of 2027...

I'd like to think Saros would be a no-go from NSH, I could see them moving picks though, which could help the Leafs' pool and acquire other guys

It depends, Askarov looks pretty damn good and Saros is 1 year from UFA. I don't think they would make Saros available for just the sake of trading him but if we are talking about a legitimate elite talent on offense then I could see it

Leafs are lucky Matthews with 3points and JT with a goal in the series have been lighting it up to Marners 1goal and 1 assist. (Matthews-28 Nylander-24 Tavares-36 Rielly-42) The number is how many pounds each player out weighs Marner by. He is by far the smallest guy but leaf fans expect him to play like the biggest. Besides Matthews once every 25games not one of those guys makes a check you can say makes the other team keep their head up. But Marner is the problem in the playoffs.

He's racked up the most hit in the playoffs lol... And that's 230 lbs coming at you lol

That is a good trade, But i am not sure if Mitch waives

Maybe he doesn't. Nothing will happen before free agency opens up though. Tre will probably sit down with him at some point to gauge what he wants in an extension if he wants to stay, probably tell him he won't go that high, then explaining why. Then steer the conversation towards where else he would be willing to extend if they can't make it work in Toronto (like he did with Tkachuk). Marner will either say no he won't waive at all or give him a few options.

Maybe... I just see the Leafs being more invested in Woll, likely wanting surrounding pieces to help him out come playoffs instead of a replacement

Their answer is not going to be Woll as starter next year lol

Argument looked FA signing...
Doubt there's a TML-BOS trade involving BC...

I'm big on Woll... And think he has what it takes if he were to have a Stolarz/Desmith of a backup

OK, so what's the 'deal' that makes me trade my:
* RD, #3-man, PK#1, 27yr old, Shutdowner @ US$4.1M until end of 2027...

Hint - TML have nothing comparable ^ ^ for a "WIN-WIN" hockey trade...

Carlo+late 1st for Marner+4rth...

Leafs trade for a position of need and the Bruins get a setup guy for Marchand that allows them to move Geekie to 3C

Not bad - prefer a 2nd.
And honestly, defense wins championships!

I wouldn't mind a 2nd...

And when Swayman has a .950, your defence doesn't matter as much tbh

That's like saying Titanium is your base layer and steel as another layer (McAvoy)

Here's the dilemma I see

Marner, Matthews, Willy, and JT are 4 nice players

Each brings something to the table that helps the TML

There's just 3 big problems

1. A salary cap, 2. how much they are making 3. they have not worked playoffs wise

Come next season

Matthews 13.25m
Nylander 11.5m
Tavares 11m
Marner 10.9m

Combined they are making around 46.65m

Cap is projected to be 87.7m

So by that TOR is putting 53.6% of its cap into 4 guys

Come next year TOR has around 21m and need to sign 2 top 4 Dman, a tandem goalie, some forwards, etc. And we have seen time and time again how tricky it is to build around these guys and make it work playoffs wise

And for those who go fire Keefe or Shanahan if we go down the list we have seen in the Matthews era

3 GMS (Lou, Dubas, Treeliving)
A HC (Babcock)
So many assistants from top to bottom etc

We also have seen them build around these 4 in every way possible slowly emptying the cupboard to try and go on a run. At some point got to question when is it time to try something else. Issue is rn Marner and the Boyz got NMC making it hard to move em

But if things dont go well this playoffs I do believe MLSE may tell Brad or Shanahan okay enough one has to go and due to circumstances Marner is the most likely. Could be JT to but he may be a pay to move guy NTU
