Not in the ballpark at all for Detroit. Zero interest in him or his contract. Also waaaaay too much to give up.

Yeah... Trading two Top 5 prospects and our 1st for an overpaid winger who disappears when it matters and is one year from UFA is gonna be a hard no.

Leafs add mathews and Nylander at 50% retained to the wings trade, that's how far off it is

This is all moot if there isn't initial interest in re-signing, but I think the Marner hate has jumped the shark. Not interested as a one-year rental, but with a path to re-signing, I'd be interested at that price. Kasper is good, but not going to be a top line player, ASP is still at least 2 years away. He would easily walk in to Detroit as the best player on the team. I'd be happy to pay less for him though.

Not everybody has to be a top line player.

This is exactly why Toronto gets killed every post-season. You don’t build one line and then rely on a bunch of scrubs to fill out the roster.

Detroit doesn't have the elite talent on the roster today to compete, and it isn't coming in the pipeline. They are going to have to make a move for a player of Marner's caliber at some point whether it's through trade or free agency.

It's been pretty obvious since the Lottery BS days that Detroit was going to be a STL/VGK style team rather than a COL/PIT type.

Regardless, if you're gonna trade absurd assets for elite talent, you do it for a center, not a winger. Definitely not one who has a lengthy history of falling off a cliff in the playoffs.

I guess we'll have to disagree on what constitutes an absurd amount of assets. If you can trade a guy whos high end projection is a 2C, a 2nd pair defenseman, and a back end lottery pick for a 26 year old winger who historically finishes close to 100 points in an 82 game season, it's good business. Again, requires an extension, but a core built around Marner, Larkin, Raymond, Debrincat, Danielson, Mazur, Seider, Edvinsson, Cossa/Augustine is a better place to be than hoping Kasper, ASP, and 15 overall turn in to players that get you over the top.

I'd prefer to keep ASP and move someone closer to Wallinder of Biuim, but was trying to be realistic in what I think a trade would cost w/an extension attached.

Regardless of the fact that Marner, even if he had decent term and a decent cap hit (the complete opposite of his contract situation) doesn't fetch this, what does it matter that Pellikka won't be ready in the next 2 years? You have Rittich and Lyon as our goalies next year - you think that's a tandem that'll lead a team anywhere near a cup?
