Blues decline. We aren't gonna sign Marner to that contract and trading Parayko destroys our defense so now we suck even more and have less cap spa ce

Regardless of value (which is really far off btw) that’s literally an illegal trade

Cant put conditions on resigning players anymore

Also Parakyo and Marner both have NMCs why are people forgetting this

Why is it Marner over Nylander or Matthews, that all have NMCs, they'll all be equally hard to move.

Why Marner, not Matthews or Nylander.
1. Hard to judge this year, but Nylander has been good in playoffs last few years. He is strong on pucks and style of play translates to playoffs much more than Marner.
2. Matthews: you just can’t move off that talent. You keep running it back with a player of that ability as long as you can.

Wasn’t aware you can’t attach conditional picks to players signing. Maybe they both resign immediately. Marner 8x 11.25 and Buchnevich at 8x8? After that the Parayko for Liljegren isn’t outrageous to make up for the value in Marner-Buchnevich. I’d hear leafs adding mid pick or prospect.

Parayko’s NMC. Obviously it depends on that. Maybe he wants to go to a team more likely to make playoffs and win (cue jokes about leafs winning in playoffs). Per Marner, all these Marner trades are built around him waving to get out. St Louis seems like a reasonably good option for him?

Marner is not a good option for the Blues. Would rather keep Buch and Parayko over taking on another player that is 10-ply soft, especially at the cap hit he will be demanding.

Blues value a balanced team rather than a single superstar (which I would argue Marner isn't even a superstar in this league although he demands to be paid like one)

Also, Lily is no where near equal value for Parayko. Not even 5 Lily's is enough value

Marner has demonstrated that he can generate stats in the regular season and routinely disappears in the playoffs. I understand that Leafs fans can't to move on from him and that ludicrous contract, but you'll probably have to retain salary or expect a lesser return. You are certainly not going to get Parayko.

Buddy, I feel for you. We have a similar situation with Torey Krug. He's a serviceable D-man, but he's grossly overpaid and has an NTC (almost as restrictive as Marner's NMC). These GMs, both Dubas and Armstrong, have put their organizations in difficult places.

Marner turtles in the playoffs - not the type of player the Blues are looking for let alone pay $11m per year.
