Canes Offer Sheet Impact

Created by: BruinsWoahWoah
Team: 2024-25 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 29, 2024
Published: Apr. 29, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bottom 6 and defensive depth is pretty weak. Prioritizing Guentzel, Jarvis, and Necas means Canes are letting half your defense walk and two very good bottom 6/identity players go...

Anderson, Slavin, and Orlov are going to need extensions next year and assuming Burns retires once his contract is up.

Blake isn’t ready. 1 of the centers are gone, likely KK. We can always go 1 year with Jarvis and Necas to shave to keep depth.

They have Morrow and Nikishin who could step into roles on the team next year, minimizing the need to resign some of their D. They need to extend Slavin and should hold on to Chatfield imo. They can keep Orlov until his contract runs out same with Burns. Idk if I'd extend either of them, just depends on available cap and what AAV they'd want

I'd imagine one of the rebuilding teams would take a chance on KK. But if not, they can buy him out for just over 800k per year. that isnt hindering them from doing what they want. I agree Pesce and Skjei are gone. Hopefully they can keep Chatfield, and have a top 4 of slavin-Burns and Orlov-Chatfield next year. Have Morrow under contract as well. Get a solid LD stay at home guy to play with him and see how that goes.

KK is probably gone in favor of a cheaper option. Probably just moving Drury in his place. That’ll give us some flexibility to add a defenseman, or maybe just re-signing Chatfield as well as picking up a bottom sixer or 2. Tight squeeze but definitely doable.

As for next offseason, Orlov’s walking as Nikishin can probably take that 2nd pair role after next year. Slavin obviously gets a big pay raise but Orlov being off the books helps with that. it wouldn’t shock me if Andersen retired, especially if we go all the way this year or next so we’ll have to get another goalie. Hopefully just a decently cheap backup/1B as we have Kochetkov. Kind of hot and cold this year but he proved that he can put up respectable numbers while playing half the season at 24 so hopefully he’ll continue to develop.
