Tanev idea reworked with Marner trade

Created by: DeclanLovesHockey
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 30, 2024
Published: Apr. 30, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't know why, but I really want to see the Tanev brothers come to Toronto. I feel like after firing Keefe/Shanahan, the Tanev's are part of turning the "culture" around. The team needs to play for each other, and I think this revamped D-core makes this team so much better. The C.Tanev AAV is low, and the assumption would be he takes a haircut to play with his brother and his hometown team. Dunn and DaMelo were also chosen because of their GTA origins.

Let me know if value on trades makes sense, Marner trade only happens if he extends with Seattle, Kampf is net-negative and Jarnkrok is borderline net-neutral in my eyes.

Edit: Steeves/Grebyonkin compete for 3RW position

Kampf and Jarnkrok don't waive for non playoff Western conference teams. One year of Marner isn't worth that for Seattle.

Marner trade only happens assuming he extends, also I keep forgetting Kampf /Jarnkrok have NTC's that is insane kudos to their agents.

If Marner is trades it better be for someone better than Rielly and Dunn is not. Also Tanev does not matter

Don't forget Dunn's NTC - and why would he waive that to come to TOR and play 2nd fiddle to Rielly? Doesn't make sense.

They'll never get full value for him though.

If he played for any other team these things wouldn't be said.

That's no true at all, it's his NMC that lowers his value, how many teams would he really be willing to waive for? If he says he'll only waive to go play with Dubas in Pittsburgh what kind of return do you think they'd get?

Exactly, either an underwhelming return, let him walk for nothing or resign him.

He'll likely get resigned. The playoffs aren't done yet and Boston did blow a 3-1 series lead just last year.

That's my guess too. All I was saying is they won't get full value for him if they trade him. It's like the Kane or Giroux trades when they're only willing to go to 1 team your hands are pretty much tied.

That's what everyone hopes is the Leafs trade him for nothing. Also it's nothing like Kane and Giroux. Those players were in their mid 30's with their best days behind them. Marner is 27. He's just in his prime. That gives him immense value. To argue otherwise is nonsensical

He is valuable, but if he is only willing to go to Pittsburgh what could you realisticly expect back?

Why would he want to only go to Pittsburgh? They just missed the playoffs and are the oldest team in the league. If anything Crosby may want to come to TO to take over this team and win a couple cups in his twilight.

You're just avoiding the question. I picked Pittsburgh because of his history with Dubas, maybe he wants to try and win Crosby another cup.

Look I know everyone is desperate to see the Leafs get screwed. So this isn't deflecting. If he gives not options then you keep him. End of debate.

How do you over pay a 100 point, Selke finalist? The cap will rise because there won't be a global pandemic to screw them this time. And he wants to stay.

I would trade him over any of the other core but letting him walk or trading him for pennies on the dollar is stupid.

What year did he score 100 points again? He's going to become the highest paid winger in the league if he stays in Toronto, you think he's the best wingerin the NHL?

He's been on that pace for 4 years. I know he technically hasn't hit the number but he's been on the pace. If you don't get value for him, you keep him. It's pretty simple. Losing a trade just to make a change for the sake of change is dumb.

A new coach could have a bigger impact.

You're never going to win a trade with Marner, that's all I've been trying to say this entire time. Look at the Tkachuk trade, that's the absolute best case scenario, and probably not because he was an RFA and extended for 8 years, where any team trading for marner is only guaranteed 1 year.
