I don't think the Kings have an appetite to run with less than 23 skaters next season. The lack of roster flexibility was one of the main pain points this season. They couldn't make any additions at the deadline, and they couldn't even call up players from the AHL to supplement the NHL roster.
I don't see any way that Byfield accepts that contract. He'll either get a 3-year deal around $6.5M, or a 8-year deal around $8.5M. He potentially could be asked to sign a 1-year deal around $5M with the promise of a long-term deal next summer (like they did with Mikey Anderson), but I think they want to avoid that because the price tag on the extension will increase dramatically next summer. $10M+.
I think the extension for Spence is a little light as well. He was very good this season. Especially if Roy isn't coming back, he's due for a $2M+ extension. The Kings could get away with a shorter-term contract for less.
Akil Thomas and Alex Turcotte will both be on this team next season. I don't think Lewis will be back. Pinelli is still a year or two away.
