I'm not sure who would want that contract considering the term.

Poulin appears to be making the penguins roster this year, what does olausson bring to the table, not familiar with his game

Wood is a solid 3rd liner, who plays well so far in play off. Teams like Pens, Toronto, Islanders gonna need this player to the bottom lines

Olausson is more Sullivan sort of player for the bottom line. I don't think that Poulin gets any good future with Pens while Sullivan is still a head coach.

Ah Sullivan a player, a soft “defensive” forward who couldn’t shoot the broad side of a barn, Pens keep poulin, forces Sullivan to work with what he has

yep, and move him later for the 4th or 5th round. This still can be a good deal for Colorado.

Personally, I think that Sullivan should be fired. He had a good enough roster to get to playoff this year. And Pens should start rebuilding with giving top 9 spot to Poulin but they would not do it.

In years past I would’ve said that PIT could use Wood’s services, but with DOC’s emergence, he has taken a firm grasp on the 3rd line LW role. When taking into account the desired influx of youth, and the probable acquiring / signing of a Guentzel replacement, there isn’t any room for Wood in PIT.

If COL wants to deal him, TOR would make sense, as well as a possible reunion with NJD imo.

I agree. I would also keep him if Landeskog does not come back

No one is trading a 3rd for an overpaid 4th liner.

Not that it matters but Fairbrother isn’t getting an NHL contract even two way from COL he played most recently in the ECHL. I mean if Drouin takes that contract they have to move somebody, I don’t think he does but then you just keep Wood which fits the line up a little better assuming Landy is healthy.

now that the penguins have fired the inept coaching staff in wbs, and have started to remove their assistant coaches, the head coach will soon be next.
Maybe the penguins will actually start to use their younger players. So I doubt Poulin is traded.

FYI Olausson has a great shot and good size but has had issues putting it all together. I wish we could see him for an extended run with the Avs. Our Ahl team isn’t the best and he’s a complementary player needing a good center to be effective.

Wood is definitely a 3rd line player on a lot of teams. Relentless, fast and a good size for all those size queens out there. The only question is why did he get that length of a contract?

I like the team. The third paring might be a problem. The trades are reasonable enough that both sides would question the value. Perhaps the target teams change based on need.
I don’t know anything about Poulin so can’t really comment on that one.

Probably simply to keep the AAV down.

I understand the rationale but how much more was he asking for on a shorter deal? $3m seems like my top end.

More that he's a guy you'd normally sign on 1 and 2 year deals which keep going up and would keep going up further with the cap. Doing what they've done now means that's locked in instead of being 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3.5, 4 as the cap goes up and means that extra they'd be laying out later is still free for the likes of Rants. Salaries do tend to follow a percentage curve so a 1.5 mil guy now is going to be a 4 mil guy in 2 or 3 years time even with no major progression in their play if the cap goes up 4 to 5 mil each year. From Wood's angle he gets the security of the money with the NTC whilst being with a competitive team. One of the reasons he's unlikely to get moved imo.

imo.

Good points. It consistent with good boy Sakic but it does leave less flexibility. Would really love to sign Drouin if he wanted another sweet heart deal.
