Description
A serious reaction to last nights game. Was the problem defence, or goalies, absolutely not. Was the problem the coach, to some extent but I wouldn’t pin it on him. The issue was the power play. You get 1-2 more goals on it over 7 games you’re looking at playing Florida in round 2.

The Leafs won’t bring back Sammy, and Woll is good but he proved he is made of glass and cannot be your 1A.

The Leafs need a true power play QB, and a steady and reliable goalie. Trading for Carlson and signing Ghost gives your pp 1 and 2 a significant boost. Riley should be traded but his contract makes it impossible.

I would love to bring back Domi but he will only be back on a team friendly deal. This assumes he takes it.

TOR
  1. Carlson, John
Additional Details:
Carlson had 22 PPP (12th in the league). Not the best option but is a true power play QB and cup to his name. Aging but still playing good. Reilly had 1 PPG all last year and Carlsson had 7.
WSH
  1. Liljegren, Timothy [RFA Rights]
  2. Marner, Mitchell
Additional Details:
Marner goes to Wash to help Ovi secure his legacy. And honestly I don’t think we will do much more for Marner then an aging player at this point.

First realistic Marner trade I've seen from a Toronto fan. Thank you.

The stupid thing is that this would be a massive win for the caps, but they probably wouldn’t consider it

Yea they wouldn't do this out of loyalty to Carlson which IMO is the right move

Carlson had a pretty good year, but I think the caps would be smart to tear down the right side and rebuild through UFA and the draft.

You do all this to get to round 2......

.....and you'll get beaten in round 2 every time.

You are not going to sign Patrick Kane for 2 years. He'll stay in Detroit if the offer isn't 4 years. That's what is supposedly the issue. Yzerman doesn't like to give guys term and Kane wants to play until he's 40 finishing his career somewhere close to family (balancing Buffalo--his-- and Chicago--hers) and putting down roots for his 2 year old son.

Gostisbehere will help your PP. No doubt. But he makes the dumbest giveaways that cost goals. He lost a couple of crucial games down the stretch with Detroit with defensive miscues. Detroit hid him on the 3rd pair with a veteran defensive d-man in Maatta. And you want to give him that money and term? That would be an awful signing. He's great for 1/2 a year and excels when teams get PP opportunities (Detroit got a lot this past year), but ask him to play a complete or disciplined game and you'll see see his effectiveness go to nothing.

BTW Gostisbehere plays RD (as he likes to play off-handed to get a pass across on net quicker).

I'd accept this trade 100% of the time and I am a big fan of Carlson (despite what other fans say)
