Hawks trade for Marner idea

Description

The thought is Marner has the large cap hit, Hawks can absorb it all. Leafs fans feel Mitch disappears in the playoffs. The Hawks offer accounts for eliminating almost $6 Million off of Toronto's books.

Hawks get a top line talent to play with Bedard

Leafs get a quality prospect who has NHL experience in Reichel and a top 4 man as well as a 2nd.

In Kyle we trust for draft picks (Artyom Levshunov), trades, and free agency to round out the roster.

I don't think Marner would waive without an extension. But Leafs should take the offer you proposed.

Hawks pass. They aren't going to move Reichel and Murphy for 1 year of Marner.

Riechel is a top prospect and Murphy is an elite shut down D. No way they do this.

Hawks aren't spending assets for a one year Marner rental. Although that trade is probably fair value.

And Stan hasn't been the GM in over two years.

Yes. Hawks only interest in Marner would be with an extension in place. Which of course raises the price in all likelihood. And means any picks are '25 or later.

It would have to be, but if that is the case than Toronto probably get better value for Marner.
