Realistic Trades From a non fan of either team

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2024
Published: May 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All of these scenarios require Marner to sign extension.

Carolina gets a much more consistent scorer in Marner. Toronto gets Necas who is a bit of a wildcard but could bring decent scoring while being a significantly cheap option than Marner. Toronto also picks up a depth forward in Ryan Suzuki and a couple of 2nds.

The St Louis and Buffalo trades are being looked at from a third party view. Both teams could use a player like Marner but the returns are difficult to really pin point. However, I do think these trades could prove useful for both teams.

Note: on the St. Louis trade Snuggerud may be a little much to move but feel free to make a suggestion as to what prospect would work.

Marner doesn’t actually fix anything for Buffalo. He wants $13 million a year to be a regular season perimeter scorer on a team that already has more than enough of those. Buffalo needs players who go to the net and create havoc for the opposing team, Marner will never do that. And the cost would be ridiculous.

He is not getting 13 mil from any team. Buffalo needs to get over the hump. Marner is a very good scorer. Although his playoff numbers haven’t been amazing he certain makes the Sabres more potent. You could probably move a couple of things around and maybe add in Liljegren in but this a decent framework. It also might allow them to move some assets to acquire a top RD.

This does nothing but push the Blues timeline back. As it’s been discussed in previous iterations of this deal, trading Parayko is a non starter. All that does is open a hole on the right side we have no way of replacing. You’ve move out a point per game player who at most will cost us 8M a year and a top end prospect for a guy we can’t won’t and would never resign

Tuch, Thompson. They need elite skill to get them to the playoffs and are the type of team that would pay big IMO for a Marner type player. Not my targets but I wouldn't count out the sabres

Take it from someone who has watched this team A lot more than you probably have. They play small, and mostly they are small. They don’t need to get smaller and that’s what Mitch brings. He is small, I’ve never seen him hit anyone. He has good hands and he’s fast, but bigger teams push him around just like they do this team now. The Sabres don’t need another Tim Connolly who gets his ass kicked, Except Tim Connolly actually produced in the playoffs. Like I said, they need someone who pushes back, someone who goes to the net and gets into the dirty areas that the perimeter talent doesn’t. Tuch and Thompson are the only two that do that now and they need another guy. Benson actually has a lot of guts and went to the net a lot as a rookie, but he is small and needs to get bigger and stronger to take the beating that comes from going into those areas. Just bringing in the guy who will go to the net and screen the goalie, tip pucks, or shoot in rebounds could make a huge difference to the power-play and the general make up of this offense. In this scenario, adding Marner costs an arm and a leg and maybe gets you to the playoffs, but it doesn’t win you any playoff games. Long-term adding muscle can do both.

Canes don't touch that. Don't have the Cap. Toronto would need to take back at least Kuznetsov and Burns.

They would but it would be a tight squeeze but you do have a point though. So the adjustment would be Toronto retains an additional 1.5 mil and takes Kuzy. Which actually is a better deal for Toronto.

Issue is, that then throws off the value of the deal entirely. I'm not sure Necas works as a base for Marner anyway, on account of the fact Marner's playoff reputation is about as strong as Necas' but not the point. I think Burns ha to be the base here. A puck moving D Toronto need, a RD Toronto need, and he opens up the cap space to make this deal work.
