I would hope the sharks pass but who knows. To me a .87 ppg center should get more than a late 2nd

I'm not giving up anything for Granlund. The clearest case of a "someone has to score the points" player I've maybe ever seen. Was an unmitigated disaster in PIT and would continue to be on any team remotely trying to compete

I wouldn't trade Perfetti for McMichael straight up, let alone add.

Perfetti was scratched in the playoffs. They might be even, with Perfetti slightly ahead, but it's clear WPG doesn't have that much confidence in Perfetti in the playoffs. McMichael is a center, where WPG could def benefit from better depth. Schmidt is not an "Add". WPG would love to dump that contract to free up space. Can't be paying a 3rd pair D for 6 million. So in my opinion, WPG would still owe something after that. Given some of the past trades and how much it normally costs to dump a contract like that even for a year, it would cost a good pick. Decided to add Iafallo to make up some of the defecit. Also think from WPG's perpective, they can shed 10mil in cap space and have to swap perfetti for mcmichael to do so. That's a pretty damn good deal.

agree that he's def not a great player, but looking at who else is out there for a reasonable price and who is actually available, it might not be a bad idea to take a chance on a guy who can pass (but albeit is a soft player).

It’s the caps. Also you’re way over the salary cap

This was done in the year 2023-2024, with our expiring contracts and cap increase and 14m in LTIR we have for next year, we're more than fine. Are you just looking for things to nitpick?

Also, caps have a winning culture, are the gold standard for success and playoffs. That caps logo means playoffs. They also treat their stars great and have created and environment where Backstrom and Ovi want to play for one team their whole careers. More than the sabres can say (Eichel lololol). DC is also just a better place to play. I think Skinner would be itching to go to a better market.

He played almost 21 minutes a night in SJS including almost 3(!!!) on the powerplay where he had 23 of his 60 points and was the de-facto top option. Don't get me wrong the Caps' offense and powerplay certainly wasn't blowing the doors down either, but that San Jose roster was historically awful. Once again all you need to do is look back one year prior to Pittsburgh who also gave up a second for him and where he promptly put up 5 points in 21 games down the stretch while being a complete liability defensively. The NHL has become wise to this archetype of player and it's why you don't see guys like Barrie, Gustafsson, Vrana, Sprong, Drouin, Domi, Ghostisbere get big long-term contracts.

yeah i'm right there with you. is there no price that you think it would cost, where you'd bring in granlund. is he just a no touch player?

I think you couldn’t be any further from the truth. Players struggle to adjust when they are moved mid season. Zetterlund did the same last year for San Jose and then when he had a whole year with the team he played very well. Granlund was thrust into a 1C roll much of the season and he still produced. He produced at a .62 ppg before being traded to Pittsburgh and the year before that had over 60 points with Nashville. A bad situation will bring a player down.

points are not everything and by pretty much every metric he was terrible in SJS this year as well as his last 1.5 years in NSH and .5 in PIT. There's a reason a team with him as their 1c was historically awful

Let’s be real, he wasn’t the reason the team was awful, he’s the reason the team wasn’t the worst ever. Sometimes metrics aren’t the end all be all. He was great this year, he was supposed to be 3C. Even as a 2C he would have been fine.

from this exchange, i've realized granlund for a 2nd is a fair trade.

And that’s fine, it might be right. In my opinion the sharks shouldn’t move him for that because of how well he’s played here. They should ask for more or even extend him a couple years if he wants.
