That Leafs trade is absolutely horrendous

Calgary won't be taking Merzlikins' contract. They'd be interested in Sillinger and Chinakhov, Kuraly would be acceptable to help balance the cap but it'll take a bit more than that especially if Calgary is sending Pelletier the other way too.

I can't see Toronto trading Marner for the much smaller and even softer gaudreau either. That doesn't fix the problem with core 4, it exacerbates the problem.

The Leafs would reject that immediately. Marner is fine, but you're asking them to give up far too much of their future AND go higher on the cap.
