If Edmonton knows they can't sign Draisaitl due to cap or if he just wants to move on I don't hate this. Bruins may have to add one more piece thow.

When the Oilers were trying to trade for Ullmark at the deadline every Boston fan said he said he won't go to Canada. Now you're all trying to trade him to Edmonton.

If I am Boston, I might consider trying to rebuild a bit rather than trade key players for a player that severely handicaps the team.

This year was their retooling year. They had 5 mil in cap carryover penalties and made the 2nd round. They have over 20 million in cap and will get even more if they trade Ullmark. The oldest of their core pieces is Marchand, and beyond that it's Lindholm at 30. I would say they are far from needing to rebuild and are closer to actually contending if they spend wisely this offseason. That being said I agree that Drai might not be the best target for them atm based on acquisition cost and eventual cap hit

I agree with what you said except on Draisaitl. Even if they pay him 13.5M, they'll have an average of ~11.5M on a superstar 1C, 1RW, and 1RD which is about what it would cost to get superstars in those positions. They'll just need to get good cost efficient, quality contracts like H Lindholm's. That's why they probably should not pay Swayman 6M especially since they only know what he can do in tandem with one of the most stable goalies in Ullmark. Signing Swayman in the 5s would be imperative to getting a goalie pairing that doesn't cost 9M+ when Bussi gets his bridge deal-if they pay ~8M total that would be decent. They'll probably need to get Lindholm at a haircut under 7M as well. If they could convince Draisaitl to take a haircut under 13M, would be even better.

I don't think Kane considers that contract, so there might be no point in signing Lindholm and moving Coyle, since Lindholm might not produce a ton more playing on an island by himself or with Marchand/Bertuzzi alone. There is the powerplay but you don't want to pay a guy ~7M to just produce on the powerplay.

Totally fair assessment. I really like Draisaitl and would kill for him to be a bruin, I just don't see Swayman taking less than 6.5 now which like you said makes the math hard. The main reason I think the timing is off is because Coyle's deal is done in 2 years. at which point it would've been perfect to be in the market for a franchise center with that 5+ in cap space added. Maybe someone like Eichel who's done at the same time makes sense

If EDM is going to move on from Drai this would be a good basis for a trade.

Personally I'd want Zacha and Poitras included, remove the 1st coming our way cause unless we're going into a rebuild we dont really need it.
Would also say you'd need to retain on Ullmark to make the cap work.

Idea is that we'd fill in our depth massively and you'd get a top 5 C in the league.

I think they are better off being in need of a 2C, than a 1C in 2-years. Could also probably try to find a cheap/temporary option for one of the wing positions. Although, this roster does have 4M free and the cap will go up another 4.3M or so the following years, so maybe they could secure both Lindholm and Draisaitl and not have issues. They do need to sign Frederic and a bunch of RFAs at the same time.

The 1st could be used to acquire a rental or player from another team so that BOS isn't giving up so many roster players. Although, the OP did just dump Zacha anyways.

Yea that was my thoughts too, if Zacha is worth a 3rd I think removing the 1st and adding him and Poitras equals out a bit.
I could imagine EDM maybe toss you Kulak since your LHD are a little weak to equal it out a bit too (but tbh Kulak is worth maybe a 4th so it's a fairly little add/no idea if BOS even want him).

Hard to value these massive blockbuster ideas.

Zacha would be worth more than a 3rd, the OP just dumped him for cheap to replace him with Kane. Realistically, I don't think the Bruins would be doing that swap. They are also likely not wanting to give up Poitras, and they might get away with it, even it's Draisaitl we are talking about here. The Oilers will need a C, but they could temporarily use RNH, I guess and hope that Holloway could be the future 2C. I would find it tough for the Oilers not to get a C back though.

So maybe something like

Bos: Draisaitl + Ceci/Kulak + Holloway
Edm: Poitras+ Carlo + Ullmark
3rd team: 2025 1st Bos/Edm (better one of the two picks) + Campbell
