Can't understand the home town discount that every fan base expects for their star player. He should get 5 years like Ovi and just as much green...I know I know, Taxes, He loves Tampa etc...

I feel Reinhart would fit better for the Caps, assuming he becomes a free agent, though I do agree with your overall point

Thanks. My overall point is in fact what you think, thanks. I don't think these players (Reinhart, Stamkos) would come to the Caps and would not expect them to consider DC sadly.

Very fair argument. I just don't see it happening. Washington basically gave Ovi that contract knowing he was chasing the goal record even though they were probably going to start rebuilding during it. Tampa probably isn't rebuilding in the next 5 years

I don't either. I was just (clumsily) showing that Stamkos should/could get the same monies.

He won't come to the Caps, I agree. I think he could/should get the same contract and not a 'home town discount' like a lot of us fans always expect. BUT, I would dance a jig if he signed here...wink

Ovi arguably took less but he got a 0% paycut and got all the term he wanted, Malkin took less and had a 35% paycut for 4 years, Kopitar got what he's worth and saw his pay cut 30% but only got 2-years. I think Stamkos is looking for the term like Ovi (until he's 40 or at least 4 years) but he's probably willing to take a paycut and leave money on the table, who knows how much though.

I'm curious what Crosby will take, will it be 8.7 or less. I feel like Malkin would be upset if he didn't take less. Maybe he can take 6877158 or better yet just 877,158.
