You should try an offer without the contract dump of Plekanec!

if no one takes him, habs will clear away cap space anyways (around 6m). we can keep him i guess, but he would be a good 3rd/4th line center with edm

Edmonton could make this trade work actually. The Bonus structure might hurt them at the end of the season
but with Plekanec being only 1 year and Mcdavids 12.5 not kicking in for another year they wouldnt be in a lot of trouble.
Thats only if they can get Leon signed for around 7.5-8 million.
I like this trade, and it would be golden if Montreal was willing to take Fayne as well.

I don't think, considering Bergevins history, he would take a bad contract in return. If Draisaitl signs for 7.5-8, that would be amazing for the oilers. but if u look at his league comparables, 6.5m- 7 should be his aavg. and if oilers can get him for that much, then u guys have some of the best forwards and lethal forwards in the league who are signed at amazing contracts (mcdavid deserves every penny u pay him imo). and some ppl are sleeping on puujlarvi. he is gonna be a legit top 6 scoring forward. not every rookie can jump right into the nhl and perform, so its ok if he develops his game in the ahl

This trade makes sense for both teams. Bergavin is probably feeling the heat in the city and needs to make a deal as the natives are getting restless in Montreal.

Montreal finally gets a No.1 centre and Edmonton clears cap room and gets a solid RW and 200 ft player in Gallagher. Edmonton probably does not want Plekanec.

I still feel like it's to much. Gallagher and a 2nd should be enough IMO, but Plekanec's cap hit needs gone and Edm could use his experience and abilities for a run.

Retain $2m on Plekanec and ask for maybe ask for a prospect or a 4th for him in return.

I'd easily retain 3M if it means getting a decent (but not blue-chip obviously) prospect back. Otherwise, I don't entirely see the point of sending Plekanec when we can use him for his experience and defensive acumen on the third line. Trust me, Habs do NOT need his cap hit gone with one year left.

we have the cap to retain salary. its only 1 season anyways, and if oilers don't want him, he only makes our center depth better
