Dallas and Colorado trades

Description
Losing Sprong hurts but picking up a quality 3rd line center with good offensive upside at a good price and under team control is worth it. Picking up a physical D in Johns, again at a good price and under team control, helps fill in on the R side where they are a bit shallow. Dallas is deep at D (Have 8 under contract that are all waiver claimable) and C but a bit thin on the wings. They get a good depth LW that can play up and down the line-up while picking up future RW depth and a 2nd in a deep draft. If a 2017 1st and a depth C only nets a 2nd and a 4th line "tough guy", the payment for a guy who can step right in and fill Bonino's shoes is gonna cost the Pens.

The Maatta/Corrado trade garners the Pens a decent prospect, a good pick in the 2nd (basically looking to be an early to-mid-2nd in a deep draft) and some cap maneuvering for next year where some of these guys are gonna be in for some raises. Even if the cap stays flat, gives the Pens about 18 mill, to sign Shore, Rust, Kuhns, Rowney, Johns and Cole to decent raises and still have a shot at retaining Hornqvist.

What a joke this trade with Avs. It makes no sense to a "win now" team trade a young top 4 d-man with great upside to become even better for a good prospect who've never played any game in NHL.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you thinking with this trade.

The other trade is ok from our perspective, but I think Stars wouldn't accept to trade Johns for this.

Either if these trades would be a fireable offense by Rutherford. Awful.

The return for Maatta is way out of perspective as the Pens have promising forwards Spron and ZAR in the system. If you are trading a young top 4 dman on a defending cup team it needs to be a piece that contributes now.

The dallas trade isn't horrible but giving up Sprong and a second better net more than shore and johns. Maybe try and pry Faska away. Shore alone would be a low cost addition to compete for a center spot.
