A Trade with BOSTON and DETROIT

Created by: Arom5477

Description
BOS TRADE:

The way I see it, BOS needs more offensive pop and someone to muck it up (Hornqvist), who can consistently put up approx. 50 pts, like Lucic used to. He's only has one year left, so its quite the low risk, high reward scenario. Also, they need some defensive depth, to pair with McAvoy (Maatta).

In return, we get a young forward who MAY work his way to 3rd line role. And a young defenceman, who can pair with Cole.

DET Trade:

This gives DET the opportunity to shed salary, while taking on prospects who are close to NHL ready.

PIT gets a 3rd line center who can find his scoring touch again, and be locked up for 4 years. BUT we get retention from DET due to the risk involved with HOPING Helm can refind his form.

Doubt Holland would retain half on Helm for the next 4 years, If he wont do it for Howard he surely wont do it for his boy Helm. Holland generally only retains with a year left not more.

I absolutely love the Helm trade. I hate to say this as a Wings fan but I think you've overvalued him a bit. I'd kill for that return with 25% retained. Honestly don't even need Puliot or Simon but I won't turn them away.

Not sure if any other Bruins fans would give their opinion on this trade, but I find it intriguing. Maatta is a young defenseman, still, with room to grow, and would give Boston a LHD to move forward with. Hornqvist for 1 year would be nice. A first to a 2nd isn't as big a jump as it seems. Riley Nash isn't much though. Not sure if you think he's a different player. (Going off what you wrote about).

I like the Helm trade. Helps Wings with salary cap squeeze and Pits get a decent 3C.

Your logic in shopping Maatta+Hornqvist to BOS or Helm from DET is perfectly fine. The problem is that you're overpaying in both trades...

BOS Trade:
- It's not a good idea to take Riley Nash. He's going to take spots away from your more talented youth, and he can hardly even be considered a 3rd liner... No value
- Carlo is indeed interesting. Early 2nd round pick, had a respectable rookie season on D... decent value
- Maatta did have a down season and is overpaid, but he's still at about the same level as Carlo, and almost just as young (22yrs)... decent value but less than Carlo's
- Hornqvist is a great second line scorer, and with your salary retention, he just became a great asset for any team... great value

You could easily net BOS' Carlo+2018-1st for PIT's Maatta+Hornqvist(same retention). No need to send picks back or take Nash. (it can be argued that you could get back more, but let's stop here)

DET Trade:
- Honestly, Helm at 25% retention costs about a 4th round pick at his most expensive (refer to: Dwight King trade)
- I've seen players shopping Pouliot, probably because you don't have the space, time, or patience to keep developing him as a 3peat-oriented team. Makes sense.

Thus, I propose DET's Helm(1.35m retained, 2.5m cap hit remaining) for PIT's Pouliot+2018-6th.

Just my opinion! I've got no horse in this race.

You are great. Most people just go "No." "This is awful". Without giving any revisions or insight. Your response was refreshing. Thank you.
