The Flyers will not trade their second best defensive prospect and Simmonds for a player that takes up 12.7% of the salary cap (75M) and declining.

Shattenkirk fetched 2 prospects and a 1st as a rental and Carlson is better.

ovechkin is declining? he finished top 20 in points last season......last 3 seasons hes top 8 in points and first in goals (by over 20 goals) sounds like a declining player............now if you wanna talk overrated and declining flyers fans 50% of your fowards fit that .....ovi would be your best forward....but yeah hes declining haha love it......

also im willing to bet djoo bowey seith hobbs will be = or better than Sanheim no reason to trade the best goal scorer in nhl for lesser talent

Ovechkin will be from 31-35 years old when we still have to pay him around 9-12% of the salary cap. Wayne Simmonds is 28 and will be cheaper in AAV.

Claude Giroux is 9th in points scored in the last 5 seasons, yet some say he is declining. That doesn't make any sense.

"50% of Flyers forwards are declining"
Claude Giroux/Jake Voracek - Not declining
      Filppula/Read/Raffl/Lethera/Weiss- Plateaued
      Simmonds/Couturier/Konecny - On the Rise
      Patirck/Lindblom - Potential

At most, two Flyers forwards are declining, yet you cite 50%. Where do you get your facts from?

This is great if you want the Caps to do badly. There isn't enough skill in the top-6, and the defense is crappy.

And Gersich is a winger, btw.

well imo a smart way to judge decline would be a 3 year window 5 year window seems a little wide open but heres what i got for you

      Giroux 198points........18th overall
      Voracek 197 point......19th overall

so by your research they were top 9 in last 5 years so last 3 years they have fell off what another 9 spots? ( froms top ten to barely top 20)i would say thats some decline right? esp since you said a declining ovechkin and he hasnt dropped out nearly as much as you guys hes still in the top 10

"Filppula/Read/Raffl/Lethera/Weiss- Plateaued" thats generous but ill go with you on that one i would add Simmonds to that but hes plateaued at a much higher level i dont see him or his numbers getting much better

Couturier/Konecny on the rise.........Konecny put up similar numbers to winnik id say him being on the rise is like me saying tom wilson is on the rise......and Couturier is one more injury away from being a bust hes a poor man jordan staal

Couturier after some looking up is a 30pt/yr guy hes done that the last 4-5 seasons .........plateaued as well? i would say your plateaued list is more like a decline list also add ur top 2 forwards and possible and thats not looking at your goalie situation and d......

so im sorry id say 8/12 forwards on ur roster are in decline or at least not improving at a low level of production ? but fact check it please

Ovechkin scored fifty or more goals in three of the last four years, leading the league each time. The Flyers have a lovely hockey club but regardless of whether you think Wayne SImmonds will continue improving after breaking 30 the last two years (for the first two times in his career (Ovechkin's eleventh and twelfth), you have to recognize that, were the Caps to shop Ovechkin, 29 other teams would make offers, and one of them would probably be a little easier for the Caps to swallow. Also, as a two time 30 goal scorer heading into unrestricted free agency next summer, Simmonds may well end up with a higher cap hit than Ovechkin. [/thread]
