That trade doesn't make sense for Edmonton since it puts them in a worst cap situation going forward. Next year Hayes and what's left on Staals deal will cost more than RNH, which is a non-starter for Edmonton. Only way it would work is if they were somehow able to flip Staal for a pick given his reduced price tag.

value is there, but you're right, would have to have a 3 way deal in place for this to work

Definitely good value for Edmonton, with Hayes, Gropp and three high picks, and with a big chunk of his salary retained Staal would probably be movable in a deal to another team for maybe like a 4th or 5th rounder.

Hayes and rhn are about equal value. but you want the rangers to trade so much just to save 2.8m in cap room. seem like a easy win for the oilers.

I kno it would take more then one pick to get staals contract off the rangers even if it's half of it

Better chance trading Staal to someone like Vancouver who will need cap just to make the floor when Sedins are gone.
