They're doing what the leafs did for a few years before Shanahan, Babcock and Lou. They put together a squad that is no where near a playoff contender full of veterans to patch where they are weak and end up being just good enough to not get a top 5-10 pick but still miss the playoffs. They're holding on to a dream that isn't there and they know they won't sell out anything if they put together a 70 point team.

Point leaders last year: Bo 52, Henrik 51, Sam 50, Thomas 48, Daniel 42.

You've got their third and fourth leading scorers on their third and fourth lines. No wonder you're confused about the resulting lineup.

Or maybe it's because they had 5 players undergo surgery in the last few months. Dorsett (neck surgery), Rodin (knee surgery), Gudbranson (wrist surgery), Granlund (wrist surgery) and Gaunce (shoulder surgery). Are these guys going to be ready to go come season opener? who knows maybe they will but at least we won't be seeing career AHLers like Chaput or Megna.

Your a funny guy putting Chaput in the lineup above. I wonder if you would put Fehr in your lineup for yer mable leaves...lol

anyway these signings are pretty moot as they are short term and salary friendly, may or may not be easily turned into draft picks, only time will tell.

Canucks have big decision next summer. It's how to spend 14m with the Sedin's leaving. If they waste it like they have in 9m in Ericsson and Gagner to long term deals, they will be an out of playoff team for years. If they can spend money wisely, and they might be NOT spending big money for a couple of years, maybe that is the way to grow the team.

Here's my take on what's happening. No offence to Edmonton but Vancouver isn't putting a losing team on the ice with all of those first rounders (back in the day before they got McDavid) but instead signing some vets who will force younger players to earn their ice-time but also develop in a winning environment in the minors. Also this will lead to some healthy competition within the team. Moreover, being last doesn't gaurentee the 1st overall pick and seeing the Canucks draft luck these past few years being last and missing out on the lottery will only make fans more mad.
